Class 319 paint matching

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of doing a repaint of the old FCC class 319s and wondered if anyone would have a good paint match for the blues as shown in the pic below. I assume the dark blue would be Phoenix First group blue (??) but any ideas for the light blue? Ideally humbrol or Phoenix.

Thanks. :)

I'm having a go at a FGW Local Lines 153 in the near future using Precision Labels transfers, they recommend Revell 52 Gloss Blue for the top colour.  I'll be using that and Phoenix First Group Blue. I'll let you know how if turns out to be correct.

Thankyou. Yes I would appreciate it please. May I ask what technique you are going to use to transition from the darker blue to the lighter blue?

After a long delay in getting started my FGW 153 is now pretty much complete and I can confirm that Revell 52 Gloss Blue and Phoenix Precision First Group Blue are the colours to go for.  With an airbrush I applied the gloss blue first from cantrail to about halfway down the body and then carefully sprayed on the First Group Blue allowing less paint through the airbrush as I worked up to make the fade.  I just went by eye with reference to some good side on pictures and the result is shown below

This is my first proper respray using an airbrush and I am very pleased how it turned out.
