Evening all.

So after the completion of the Dapol 08,I have now turned my attention to a Heljan 37 in 3TG coal.

Everything is off the model and a pile of brass parts courtesy of PHD are waiting to be fitted.

So far I've cut the coweling away from the buffer beam and added axle box covers and step to one bogie.

Need to decide on livery soon...can't decide....either way the Grey's are wrong for 3TG,especially the lower shade..

Hi, I have just been checking out your class 08 it looks superb. Now following your progress on this as I have a Pete Harvey etch to do my split box loco. Is the bufferbeam etch easy to fold up and attach to the chassis?

Cheers Peter.

Peter.

Yeah, really easy as the part it fixes to can be removed from the chassis.

Only a little solder in the corners to fix the angle.

nice job on the buffer beam cowling. what kind of tool did you use ?

With regards to the greys, either way if you upgrade the model to 80s/90s you will have to respray completely...

IMHO the upper band is too dark ?

I measured it out with a metal rule, then with tape marked where needed cut away.

I used a 4.5mm drill bit to form the curves, then a mini drill with a circular blade to cut the coweling away.

Once I have the buffers fixed to the beam I will make sure all is where it needs to be before I add the welded edge to the cut away.

Hi Modelman 14

are you also replacing the nose grills? This is a task facing me to create 37.674 in Railfreight Red Stripe - I have the PH conversion kit ready and waiting.

regards

Mike

No,I'm keeping this one as a 37/0....possibly in red stripe.....or a LLB Inverness machine...

37146, 37153 may be your easiest options.

Other examples are 37128 and 37209 although I don't think either carried IS stags etc.

37128 was an RSH-built machine so had different cantrail grilles. 37209 also had lamp irons on noses.

Other LLB examples may be possible but these were perhaps ED machines IIRC (37175 etc.).  37183 was in LLB with the bufferbeam cowling.

The classic IS LLB engines  37260, 262, 263 did not have the same nose ends as the Heljan model, and also had the Halfords hi-intensity lights.

It's a minefield....

Evening.......

Not had a lot of time on the 37 lately, but I have managed to nearly finish the bogie frames...

The brake pipes are not 100% correct, but I think they look OK..

I'll attend to the brake levers at a later date, but for now the frames are nearly ready to paint.

Modelman14, please can I ask how did you manage to remove the Headcode lens without damaging it and do PH-Designs still do the Class 37 steps as these are not listed on the website?

Also do you or does anyone else know how to remove the buffers without cutting them off or damaging them?

I have the LLB Heljan 37 and with some help will be doing 37183 which has the black headcode panels with domino marker lights.

Currently my model has the EM3 speakers WHL Sound Legoman Decoder (speaker fitted in the fuel tanks).

Instead of reprinting the black bufferbeam cowling, this is currently carefully being removed to reveal the Heljan Yellow underneath with a fibreglass pen. Then any minor issues corrected with a dab of Warning Yellow paint.

As 37183 carried both the Highland Stag and leaping Salmon this gives two options for the 37 as I plan to model it before it lost one of these emblems.

Then it will be fitted with a BR Uniformed driver, the loco weathered, the horns on the cabs replaced for cast horns. Then snowploughs added to both ends.

The lenses simply pushed out, don't think they got damaged, but i wasn't too bothered as I have brass plates from PHD to replace them.

I would suggest contacting PHD regarding the steps, they are available as I recently bought them along with an array of brass detailing parts.

Many Thanks,

I contacted PHD regarding the steps as they are not obvious on the website and I was just sent a link to the 7mm section.

So,the class 60 is done and i've had some time to commence work on the 37.

Progresses so far...

Buffer beam cut away complete, headcode panel fitted, high intensity headlights fitted and window rubbers fitted....

I've fitted the headlight as supplied but i think it protrudes too far so that may need addressed.

I need to decide which 37 I'm modeling as well as the front ends are massively different from loco to loco

Following with interest and I have to agree the headlight looks miles too big/thick

Spent a couple of hours on the 37 today, progress is slow but I'm getting there.

So,grilles are corrected, side access door and steps blanked and blanking plates attached next to nose grilles.

Not far from a coat of primer now.

How did you get the cab interiors out please mine appear to be well glued in.

Thanks

E
