grahame
Can anyone provide some information about this wagon - as produced by Parkwood (kit PN08) - apparently introduced in 1928 and still in service into the 1990s carrying a wide variety of Civil Engineers material on British Railways Southern Region. I can't seem to find anything further on-line. Thanks in anticipation. G.
eastwestdivide
They're described as sleeper wagons, but aren't they the 20T Tunny ballast wagon? As at Paul Bartlett: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/srtunny
The Bigbee Line
I think you mean Parkside. SR Diagram 1771 Ballast Wagon. Lasted from 1928 to the 1990's. Apparently the second plant down was a metal channel and made the doors very heavy. Numbered 61945 - 62004 Edited November 9, 2017 by The Bigbee Line
Southernman46
A fine kit from available from "Simkits" ISTR Sorry - OP models "N" - I really should read the Q - my failing in every exam I've ever taken Still a great kit though Edited November 11, 2017 by Southernman46
grahame
They're described as sleeper wagons, but aren't they the 20T Tunny ballast wagon? As at Paul Bartlett: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/srtunny I was wondering that (being Tunnys). Those on Paul's site (via the link) certainly look like the pic in the Parkside catalogue although it (the Parkside model) appears to be missing the door bangers. Odd they call it a 'sleeper wagon' rather than a Tunny ballast wagon. Did they used to be for conveying sleepers? Anyway I've ordered a couple of the kits and will have to see how they make up. G. grahame
A fine kit from available from "Simkits" ISTR Slimrails? Unfortunately that is 00/4mm - I don't think they do one in N/2mm. But Parkside do, so I've gone with them. I'm hoping to mix them in with some RTR Dapol Grampuses (Grampii?) I have. Cheers. G.
guzzler17
Anyway I've ordered a couple of the kits and will have to see how they make up. . I'm in the process of making up one of these kits and was wondering how yours turned out? What is exercising my brain at the moment is whether, when initially painting the body, I should pick out the second plank in a metallic colour. Engineers olive is my preferred colour for the remainder of the body. Given that my wagon will be in mid to late 80s condition I'm thinking that I might not bother as it'll be covered by a layer or three of grime and in any case would the difference be visible from more than 2 feet. Probably not.
