Spraybooth - how deep

Recommended Posts

I have built a spraybooth around a cooker hood extraction unit. The width is governed by the cooker hood unit but the height and depth are flexible. I made the depth 24", but I feel this may be too deep. I have only used the booth to spray primer so far. The reason I ask is because of lighting issue, I have lit the unit with an LED rechargeable torch (one of those with a hook that is used for cars etc) and the light only reaches about 10" into the box. I feel that 10 - 12" would probably be deep enough. I have looked at the unit discussed elsewhere on this newsgroup (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Spray-Booth-Extraction-Filter/dp/B0050BQQUW/ref=pd_cp_ce_0) but I'm not sure if the quoted dimensions include the extractor unit on the back.

Many thanks

Tony

Hi

Mines as deep as a piece of A3 paper is wide.

One of these

Tony,

I am using the Amazon unit you mention in your first post. I notice sometimes that the suction into the booth is not strong enough so that some mist escapes the airflow. This may be overcome if your booth is deep enough to actually work INSIDE the channel. I don't know how strong your airflow is, but I think that deeper may be better in your case.

cheers,

Michael

Now to buy a cleaning station.

Tony,

get a cheap one, but don't forget to order the filters with the station. They don't last very long.

Michael

I was thinking of this one;

Thanks Paul, is it also worth buying nylon brushes and a reamer?

Hi

I've never used either but I have a set of these brushes for cleaning.

Hi Tony,

I am using "the other ebay model" cleaning station with the black cap. I guess they are quite comparable.

Regarding mechanical cleaning of the airbrush equipment: I tried to clean it using tooth picks, cotton swabs and things like that. Never got good results. Today I am using a cheap ultrasonic bath instead. Needle, nozzle and all other removable parts as well as the body are going into a small vessel with cleaner and then into the US-bath. I have no more problems with cloggin or poor results since then. The ultrasonic bath is also used to stirr up the sediments in paint and to clean the models before painting. All in all, a good 40€ investment.

regards,

Michael

The distance of the hood in front of the extractor is 15" at the bottom and 10" at the top. Just measured mine for you. :)

Thanks mate, after fiddling about I ended up with 15" at the bottom and 11 1/2" at the top so pretty close.

Regards,

Tony
