Hi everyone, a week to go until DJM’s first appearance at the Warley Model Railway Exhibition, and things are coming together nicely.

At 11.00am and 12.00 midday I’ll be unveiling something new / previously unannounced, and I hope to have more surprise announcements through the day and weekend.

Come and see some updated cad/cams, get updated news on existing projects, and even buy stuff.

I’ll have a few New N gauge Dutch Mermaids available on a first come first served basis, I’ll also have some bargain models along with some sold as seen NQP models of J94, O2 and Beattie well tanks at crazy clearance prices.

My stand is along side The Kernow stand if you want to hunt it out?

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave

First off all my apologies for the high ###### this thread but are you going to model-rail Scotland in Feb 2018

Thanks

Alan

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the mail.

My only show north of the border is Perth I’m afraid, and a cracking show it is too.

I might do ModelRail Scotland but only as a guest of someone who will be there....... possibly.

Cheers

Dave

Met Dave today, though I still owe him a cup of tea, but I did lighten him of another J94.

Good sales guy there, I asked about the NQP models, and a J94 in Black, found one for £50 but said I could have a perfect one for £65.. ok :-)

It now joins Mech Navvies, Joseph and 65 meaning I have Red, Yellow, Green and Black J94s.

Thinking about a NQP 30586 tomorrow (after all by most accounts the real 30586 wasn’t quite perfect either).

Apt-p would be perfect if it was in OO, but alas it’s N, but great choice !

With Class 71’s at £100 I had to hold back, I’ve got 5, but there’s some nice deals around the DJ stand for those prepared to do a little maintenance work.

Class 92 body was on show too.

The 92 was in fact a 3D printed OO gauge model in both headlight variants.

What impressed most was the level of detail on the roof, with all detail visible, and all the areas under the 10 roof grills fully discernible as fully moulded items.

I also had the 92 made in what i asked for as N gauge but turned out to be more 'T' gauge, but again the 3D printing so fine that the full roof detail including the bits that will be under the etched grilles in OO and N were visible.....albeit small.

It's very difficult to explain that everything you see on the roof of the OO one will port across to the N gauge version including the side grilles and detail behind. No half measures here!

The Stobart Rail contract for a licence to do the 92 in both N and OO was signed 2-3 weeks ago and this deco version will be added to the crowdfunded list in N this coming week, but please

note due to the licence fee that Stobart Rail want from every model, the price will be higher than other crowdfunded N gauge 92's.

Second payment will be asked for the second week of February 2018 so it gives you plenty of time to order the Stobart Rail or even add other variants to your existing order.

Still 2 more contracts to sign, which although on what subjects i cannot tell you, they are exciting i hope to have these SS&D before Christmas.

Cheers

Dave

Hi everyone,

My word, I didn’t remember just how energy zapping standing on your feet for most of the day ( 9 hours or so) on a hard concrete floor was, but I got a reminder over this last weekend, that’s for sure.

Note to self......stools would be a great idea.

Anyway,

Had a terrific weekend and I thank every one of you who dropped by to say hello and have a chat. It was fantastic to put faces to names from RMWeb, and to renew old acquaintances that have slipped over the last 4 and a years I’ve been doing this on my own.

The APT has garnered lots of attention from ‘too expensive’ down to ‘fantastic, i’ll Have 2 x 14 car sets in N gauge please’, and I know that Durham Trains of Stanley is very happy about the pre orders, and the demand for a OO one, and I think OO will get added to the ‘range’ sometime over the next couple of days.

Thank you all for the kind comments regarding the OO class 92 and detail levels i’m going to achieve on the N gauge version which will make it the defacto model for modellers.

Nice comments too about the adding Stobart Rail to the range in both gauges too.

Lessons learned from the show? Don’t hope to go home early as a trader. I was packed up and ready to go at 5.10 as it’s a very easy stand to dis-mantle, but couldn’t get into the hall until 7pm. I’ll make sure i’m prepared for that next year as I had forgotten what it’s like. Lol, and also have a bigger stand, as the range is expanding a fair bit over the next 12 months, the stand needs to have the space to reflect this with more displayed items etc and last;y a bit of carpet off cut to stand on would make all the difference. Lol

Thanks once again everyone, and hope to see you at shows around the UK or at Warley 2018.

Cheers

Dave

You were sat down each time I passed ;-)

The 92 body looked very good, I continue to watch that with interest. Pleased the APT is showing popularity, shame I really can’t justify one!

Luckily i took a fold up chair, so i could take the weight off my feet accordingly. Not often saturday as I toughed it out, but certainly yesterday i spent a goodly half hour on my not inconsiderable derrière though.

Thanks for the comments regarding the 92, did anyone on here see the ‘T’ gauge one on my stand?

It was printed in error as it was supposed to be N gauge, but still showed all the detail of the OO one, which bodes very well for shrinking methinks. The days of plastic grilles where they don’t have to be is over.

I understand about the APT though, and I don’t think its got longevity in sales. I think its a case of a batch produced to satisfy immediate demand then 5 years of nothing until demand builds up again, if at all. So it may well be a one ‘hit’ wonder in terms of production in either gauge, and as such needs to cover costs immediately.

I’m also excited about the proposed class 81’s-85’s mooted as well. Although I only saw the 370’s in anger as a 14 coach once i spent misspent youth at Tring copping 81-87’s and such like and the video posted on the APT thread of th APT leaning into the curves looked fantastic but i was anamoured with the banger blue electrics. Boy what a diverse, interesting and overall more fun railway system we had back then.

Cheers

Dave

Glad you had a good weekend at Warley but it is not an exhibition I attend for personal reasons..

With that in mind I find your comment interesting-- I’ll make sure i’m prepared for that next year as I had forgotten what it’s like. Lol, and also have a bigger stand, as the range is expanding a fair bit over the next 12 months--

Does this mean production of the industrial which you announced a while back is getting nearer!

They sound like nice people to do business with - not. Why on earth is a haulier concerned about his name being on toy trains? Given that I understand Stobart trucks are an enthusiast area in their own right, clearly all publicity is not good publicity, after all. How wrong could the world be?

In the litigation-crazy US a decade or more ago Union Pacific tried the same touch, got challenged by Mike's Train House, backed down.

Let's not overlook the fact that they have said 'yes' and not unreasonably are asking for a fee for their copyrighted materials. Dave runs on low profit margin as it is and both he and Stobart have been up front about it. Thems the terms, you're welcome to vote with your feet if you don't like it

It’s the way of the world i’m afraid, DBSchenker, Freightliner and Stobart amongst others, require a fee etc for the licence, and its something we have to get used to and incorporate it into model prices, and those prices might vary for the same loco class but in different liveries...... on the Stobart, its a licence, plus the extras the factory require for the complexity of the livery and a coverall for the higher reject rate too.

Hope this helps?

Cheers

Dave
