de84son
Hi everyone, I am new here. Was browsing through this forum past few days and realised this is quite a problematic decoder. I read about the jerkiness and how it can be changed with CVs but just curious was it this jerky as my video below? The decoder got really hot to a point touching it is impossible and there was some burning smell from the motor as well. After few more tries, the decoder finally died and i sent it back to the seller for an assessment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqthMDyGc5o
RAF96
The TTS decoder has 2 algorithms set in CV150. Value 0 or value 1 whichever best suits your motor. You can also fine tune these individual algorithms by changing further CVs - its all in the manual supplied with TTS decoders/locos. It may be that your motor is faulty as it is getting hot and smells and has overstressed the decoder to the point of failure. I would be installing a DC running blank plug and do a motor stall current check before installing any new decoder. If you have returned the loco complete for repair then the onus is on the retailer or Hornby to make sure its AOK. Rob
Pete the Elaner
That's definitely not right. You certainly did the right thing by taking it back as soon as possible. Fiddling with it to investigate may have invalidated any warranty.
de84son
Thanks for the replies guys. I actually tried it on more than 5 locomotives from different manufacturers but same effect. Hope i will get a replacement from the seller, the sound is actually pretty good for its price.
