Building a BR 'Baby Warship' on Sketchup

Hi all,

I have started building a Baby Warship class on Sketchup.

This particular one is built to Diagram DH/2100/1, which at least I believe is a class 22. Would anyone be able to clarify this please?

http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BR_Diesel_Locos_0329_SB_issue.pdf - Go to page 34 to see Diagram DH/2100/1

Any suggestions will be taken into consideration.

Yes, the hydraulic version was classified as Class 22 under TOPS.

You need some taper in the cab ends in plan view, forward of the door and there's a slight downward slope in the cab roof too (so it's actually a section of cone rather than column). In both cases the taper isn't very much, but definitely there.

I never noticed the taper in the when I started building this. Although I did notice the cab roof slope, which I thought could easily be fixed if needed. I gave the tapering a quick go (by resizing the cab) although it distorted the shape of the cab. Either I will have to do some sanding when I get up to making the physical model or I will need to heavily overhaul the loco, which if I get the time, shouldn't be a problem.

Forward the door - If you meant the cab communication doors I have since done this and I have also put the tail light on. I am also having an issue with the nose, as there are variations of the nose, and so far I have found NO photos of the diagram I am making. They also seem to have a different central grille type, I'm not sure if I'm building a diagram that was rare or if that drawing was of the class as built.

I haven't fixed the cabs yet, although I did a little bit of 'colouring in' to see what it may look like when finished. Ones with eagle eyes will see the nose at the rear is completely yellow. I did this to see what it would look like with full yellow ends. (Trust me, it certainly looks ready for war!) Once the overhaul commences I will post more pictures.

Yes, the main grille on the side was altered fairly early on and there were detail variations as the build went on. Later on the noses were fitted with split headcode boxes too.

After conducting a search on BRDatabase and a little Google Images search, I found that the particular Class 22 I am building is actually one of the six Pre-Production 22's (D6300 - D6305). I also found in some of the photographs that these retained the original grille style, as opposed to their production model sisters. I have decided that I will model D6301, and all I need to do now is decide what colour scheme to paint it, then I will be all set.

You don't have a lot of colour schemes to choose from with D6301. It was delivered in all over green, and had small yellow panels added later. It never made it to full yellow ends, or to blue. It was also the first one to be withdrawn and the only one not to have headcode boxes fitted.

This particular model will eventually operate on my layout 'Kingsborough' as a station pilot. What I plan on doing sounds stupid, but the withdrawal date fits perfectly with my layout's operation period. In (fake) history, after it's withdrawal on 30 December 1967, it was taken to Kingsborough for 'scrapping'. I say it with 'quotations' as it was not scrapped there. Instead it was given an overhaul and was returned to service as a station pilot, retaining it's old coat of BR Green with small Yellow Warning Panels. It would frequently be used as a 'Standby Locomotive', and would sometimes be see towing a DMU into the station.
