RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted December 4, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 4, 2017 Hi everyone, Some time ago I was asked if I knew of any class 08s that were in pre-TOPS blue; fortunately I knew of a couple of examples from the Southern Region and could point my friend on to the relevant images and sites (this was thanks to members of the forum, and their responses to an earlier request). The question has come up again, but with a bit of refinement: does anyone know of any class 08s that were in blue, with pre-TOPS numbers, and allocated to the Scottish Region? I have looked around online, and cannot find any photographic evidence. I realise that quite a number made it into TOPS while still painted green but, given the size of the class, I would have thought at least some up here made it to blue first. As ever, thanks in advance for any help. Regards, Alex.

caradoc
3415 was blue pre-TOPS as well; Picture of it at Highhouse Colliery, Ayrshire, in March 1970, in 'The Heyday of the Scottish Diesels' (David Cross, Ian Allan 2002).

BR37414
If I may also ask, is there list of where 08s were assigned? I just purchased Bachmanns rendition of 08818 and am curious what the chances are it was assigned to Glasgow?

My spotting notes are not really anything much to go by, but searching through them it would seem that I never saw 08818 anywhere other than Swansea, so it might be an unlikely move to the Glasgow area. As per Jonny777's post 3986/08818 based at Landore certainly from 1969 to 1986, then to Cardiff from 1987 to 1994. Dual braked during 1983. That's all the records I have but according to the BR Database site: 13/8/60 to service. Allocated to Tyseley 8/10/60 to Gloucester Horton Road 27/7/63 to Llanelly 28/12/63 to Danygraig 13/4/64 to Landore Feb 1974 renumbered 2/4/97 withdrawn The BR Database site (http://www.brdatabase.info/index.php) has quite a lot of information but, as has been shown, not everything. Hi again, If you are not against renumbering the loco, it may be worth trying out the following: 1. Use the following link to work out what other locos would have had the same body variations as your model: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/6622-class-08-09-variations/?p=55482 Your model also has the additional boxes fitted when it became dual braked - these aren't covered in the link, but a photo search will help check that. 2. Then use the previously given link to brdatabase to see the allocation histories. This site also allows you to search for sheds, and to then get a snapshot of the allocation on any given month and year. Hope this is of help. Regards, Alex.
