Popular Post darren01
Hi My Father dead a few weeks ago and i have been up to his house to start sorting out his collection of Railway photos dating from 1962- late 1980's. I think it is going to take me some time to do this as well as photos there are a vast amount of slides as well, so i will start with the 1960's with steam and work my way forward or group them in different threads?. For my Father David Rees, 1951-2017 thank you for leaving me such memories. Darren. Old Oak Comom 1962. My Father at Waterloo 1966. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted December 10, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2017 Whilst not at all decrying the photographs in any way, but I like the "amateur" spotters pictures quality of them, gives them a bit of ambience IMHO. bike2steam
So sorry for your loss Darren, your dad born in 1951 is the same age as me, argh a cold shudder goes thro' me. I spent most weekends at Nine Elms shed after the closure of Willesden in September 1965, until '9E' own demise July 1967, rarely visiting Waterloo, so there's a few memories for me. 34057 is 'cold' on shed as it was one of those cannibalized to help keep 34023, and 34102 in working order. RMweb Gold PhilH Posted December 12, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Thanks for posting these Darren, a lovely reminder of your father and his interests. It was my dad too who nurtured my interest in steam engines, he worked at Eastleigh (71A) shed so from the age of 5 I spent many a happy hour on the footplate of the shed pilots there. I was really interested and pleased to see some photos of 41312 as well, we have it on the MHR and it was the loco I passed my driving test on many moons ago. vitalspark
Very sorry to hear about your loss Darren its a real sadness but his photographs which are truly excellent will ensure his memory is kept alive and shared by many for a long time to come..as already said a great tribute. I am of ages with him and also spent time around Nine elms and the SW mainline around the same time so many of the pics bring back memories. 35007 & 34102 both mentioned I photographed on Weymouth shed around the same period. It sounds like you have your work cut out to catalogue and share these pics but please continue as long as you can as those so far have been spot on. Thanks again Dave.
