Popular Post Trev52A
With sub-zero temperatures expected outside in much of the country, I thought it might be a good idea to share some railway-related photographs taken in the snow. I'll start the (snow)ball rolling with a couple of oldies taken at Low Fell back in 1969: D6897 with a northbound freight passes the Team Valley Trading Estate exchange sidings at Low Fell on 16th February 1969 Photographed from the road bridge at Low Fell on 16th February 1969, D8590 with a southbound freight. Popular Post Swindon 123
Snow can be a mixed blessing as a driver. When it is falling it can be very tiring driving into the stuff when it is falling during the day, and to a lesser degree at night. spotting signals, especially of the semaphore variety. Approaching Marshbrook signal box 29th Jan 2010. There is a semaphore signal in the gloom. Although it does have its compensation when the snow stops and the sun is out. The run up to Church Stretton. 8th January 2010. Paul J.

Popular Post LNER4479
Looking back, I feel lucky to have seen this; unlikely to ever be repeated. It was 1983 (good grief!). Going well at Mallerstang, about two miles from Ais Gill summit. 14 on, so the Compound certainly wasn't there just for show. Serious snow on the RhB in 2011. Even the Swiss were struggling a bit in these conditions, most trains were running a massive 10 minutes late! My first visit to the Harz and still very special memories. Despite many subsequent visits, I have never experienced it since quite like this. Edited December 11, 2017 by LNER4479
