Links to political sites in member footer - allowed?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've noticed at least one member with links to political sites in member footer, and location. Is this allowed, given the line in the forum rules:

"Politics, Religion and Sex are considered OFF LIMIT subjects, frequently these subject cause friction between people who wouldn't normally fall out with each other over any modelling subject."

I've seen other forums where members use their footers to subtly bypass rules and post what they want.

I won't post the member name, but want to clarify and if admin wants the username please contact me.

Personally, I would like it removed, as the link is to a highly undesirable site IMHO, and it has absolutely no relevance to modelling whatsoever.

Regards and thanks.

Alan

I don't know of the particular footer signature you refer to, but what I do regularly is press the 'ignore signature' thingy. I do this not so much because of the content of the signature, but because it results in significantly reduced page scrolling time.

I know Andy Y has considered constraints on permissible size of signature in early RMweb days.

If I guessed the RMWeb member correctly, a signature this morning has been "pruned". I have no objection to railway modelling-related links at all. All political links and some personal statements, I just find distasteful. Yes, boring old f@rt... whatever...

Perhaps it should be, given that war is an extension of politics by other means, according to the definitions of Von Clausewitz.

I personally would rather not be regaled by visions of warfare on a railway forum, given all you have to do to see them every day is watch a rolling news channel.

It is just another example of the narcissistic online personality. "

My ideas are so obviously better than yours, i need to let you know all about them, whenever I can.

I think there's also an element of "My politics are just common sense, they're not controversial, why would you not want to read about them on a model railway forum?" They think that because it's something they're into, so too must everyone else be, not realising how tiresome it is. Or they're deliberately spoiling for a fight, which I have come across on other forums before.

I think this one is a little more debatable, and it depends on the nature of the war imagery in question. For instance, would an interest in the ROD or the Longmoor Military Railway count?
