drduncan
Dear all, I’ve recently aquired a lovely 4mm scale EM gauge Sharp Stewart 2-4-0t. It was absorbed by the GWR and given no 1384. I’d like to fit DCC sound but I’m sure there isn’t a suitable sound file. A friend has suggested using a Terrier sound file on the basis that they are both very small locos. Does the community have any suggestions for a better solution? Regards Duncan
Nigelcliffe
Terrier or Beattie Well Tank would be my suggestions for starting place. However, if you talk directly by email to some of the sound producers, they may "mix" a special for you. So, perhaps start with a small 0-4-0 or similar as the chuffs, then try to match the whistle to best guess of what the real one had, add other noises as appropriate. I've done this with a few unusual locos before, adding things like Westinghouse pumps and the like to match the equipment fitted to the locos. Also, choice of speaker will alter what it sounds like. There isn't a massive amount of room in there by the look of things, but should be able to get one of the larger "suger cube" variants in it.
