Kens Hamfisted Shenanigans now with added N Gauge

First example, having taken a liking to the Dapol O plywood sided van, I needed to usher it on a few years.

After perusing Paul Bartletts website and spending more than I would like to get letters for the TOPS code...

The observant amongst you may notice one side is not a VVV but an upsidedownawithabitcutoutupsidedownawithabitcutoutupsidedownawithabitcutout, because in spite of everything my lettering decal pack only has three V's, and I wasn't shelling out another 15 quid.

ideally the little data panel on the right should have a black background, but the only decals I have are slightly too small to cover the existing panel. The XP should probably be in a little box to the left of the door too

Also on deck, a Heljan OAA.

For this one there was the addition of the dangly chains that were supplied, which aren't quite prototypical, but I think are worth having.

I also painted the ends of the brake pipes, as it looks a bit silly having the ones on the 'matching' VAA painted but not the OAA.

I also added some metallic steel acrylic to the buffer shank as I couldn't cope with it being red...

The only other thing I would like to do is add a bit of white to the brake ratchet, but there's a lot of potential for painting half the chassis, so that can wait a bit

A bit of tweaking on the Heljans. Added some white to the brake lever and ratchet on the OAA. On the VAA it was the opposite, blacking out some of the white on the lever and ratchet.

The only other thing the VAA needed was one of the brake disks glued back on, and the well known detached brake arm.

A bit more drastic on this one, the original had a big blob of paint on one side so I smoothed that off, repainted, semificated the smokebox, added the plates and Fox decals for the LMS livery and ID and did the lining with masking tape and an a brush...

Which reminds me, I think it still needs buffers...

After her little trip to Farish for some drivetrain fettling and a new bogie frame we're back in action. Sound decoder is in, headcode discs are on, rims and axle boxes painted. I found a coupling hook with dangly bits in my spares box for the detailed end. I think at this stage the yellow ends are as good as they are going to get, so just need to finish the overall gloss coat, do the brass vents on the nose, and contemplate the nose end handrails...
