Bachmann REVIEW OF OUTSTANDING MODELS

Bachmann Europe has been working hard to reduce its back log of previously announced new products and bring new tooling models to market. Collectors Club Members were able to see good progress on the J72, Class 90 and Steam Crane at the recent Warley Model Railway show.

There are, however, a few models in the current catalogue for which the present economic conditions are not favourable, so we are removing these items from the range for the foreseeable future.

The items are:

The new DCC compatible chassis for the Parallel Boiler Royal Scot Class 4-6-0 (Catalogue numbers 31-285 LMS crimson,  31-286 BR black and 31-287 in BR green)

The Class 166 models (Catalogue numbers 31-029 GWR and 31-025A Network SouthEast liveries)

David Haarhaus, Managing Director, Bachmann Europe said today “Whilst it is frustrating for ourselves, and no doubt disappointing for our consumers, we feel the right and proper decisions have been made. These suspended subjects may well become Branchline models in the future, and I am confident that our resources are now allocated to more appropriate projects, many of which shall remain unannounced until prototype stage, examples of which can be found in our forthcoming 2018 catalogues.”

Excellent video! It gives us very interesting insight into the work that goes into a new model - there are various issues in there that I for one wouldn't have imagined. It also gives us the human side - Bachmann isn't some distant organisation somewhere out there, but there are real people and real modellers who are intimately involved in bringing these new items to fruition.

Thank you so much, both to Andy and to the two Steves at Bachmann.

That's my GWR 166 fleet derailed then :stinker:

This sort of thing further reinforces the impression that Bachmann's new(ish) broom has really got his feet on the ground and knows what he's about, very encouraging.

Interesting video Andy. It is up to NER followers to snap these up, as there are certainly enough guises to come. Then it can't be too many years before they see other NER locos like a J27 (or whatever) and a B16.  On a personal level, I went to York just to see the B16's and traveled behind an unrebuilt version just the once. The drivers didn't mess about and the locos always seemed sturdy enough to withstand it. Not for nothing did I buy videos covering North Eastern activities on BR.

The class 24/1 still makes the cut.

Probably not a bad call on the Scot, they did a fantastic job on the Patriot and it’d Be excellent to see that chassis under the Scot, on a new body to match someday, but I recall back in the 80’s and even the 90’s Unrebuilt Scots lived in the shadows on shop shelves, the older ones are still plentiful. Perhaps if the guys building the Patriot decide it needs a bigger sister (or new larger Boiler) someday..

Do we know the running numbers for the cranes yet?

And related to, the 'origin' of the BR black and red cranes (i.e. what detail variations GWR/SR or MoS/LNER)?

All cranes are detailed on the Bachmann website news story from a few weeks ago

Fascinating feature and the passion and enthusiasm for each model they develop is so evident.

A brave decision to shelve models and re-prioritise, but I'm sure Bachmann know their market and where their best returns are.

No mention of anything similar happening as regards the N Gauge range yet (at least not publicised here), so I am hoping that the existing announcements, notwithstanding the slow progress (not a criticism but an I hope fair observation) of a number of models still stand. I have to admit reading this, I had half expected to flip to Farish N Gauge to see that the 319 suffered a similar fate given the RRP of even 2 car multiple units heading closer to £200, and whilst not my cup of tea I'm glad it doesn't appear to be the case.

This is the major news for me, a step change as to how product semantics are made public, this has long been needed.

Boy I,m glad I brought a second hand NSE class 166 2 years ago.

I am amazed more was not cancelled and can only assume that pre-orders were not great enough to justify development for now.

Really looking forward to the 1P. Spot on for me and seriously excited at the prospect of them doing a S&DJR version.......not to mention the Midland version and the BR condensing jobbies........Oh dear me.....
