Lomm
Andy Y
Translation.. Greetings! I do not know how to put my question in the right place! I'll come here! Need help identifying the locomotive for the sidewalk. This locomotive existed in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century at a metallurgical plant in Nizhny Tagil. The photo is dated 1902 year. For many reasons, this locomotive is similar to some examples of industrial locomotives in the UK, Ireland. In our country besides this photo there is no more information in history ... I really hope that your community will help me. Sincerely, Andrei R. Andy Y
The locomotive was made by the Hunslet Company in Leeds, they manufactured many for export in addition to the British market. I have not been able to find me the exact number or date built. I hope that helps. Локомотив был сделан компанией Hunslet в Лидсе, они изготовили многие для экспорта в дополнение к британскому рынку. Я не смог найти точное число или дату. Надеюсь, это поможет.
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted January 22, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2018 It doesn't look like a Hunslet to me but without a date or works number it's a bit difficult to search for.
rockershovel
Vulcan Foundry did a lot of export business to Russia in the nineteenth century. It could well be from that source, the outside cylinder(?) 0-6-0ST would be a Victorian type
Andy Y
It doesn't look like a Hunslet to me but without a date or works number it's a bit difficult to search for. I'd missed the outside cylinders whilst looking on the tablet.
Covkid
If I had to put any money on it I would plump for Belgian or French origin. The outside cylinders look "foreign" to my eyes and the safety valve doesn't look particulary domestic either. It is actually quite a large loco for an 0-6-0, and particularly a British 0-6-0 saddle tank, if you scale the chap in the cab to his environs. Sheffield
I would agree the loco is British built by Hunslet. or possibly Hudswell Clark. But I would also suggest it has been fitted with a replacement boiler, and one available has been made to fit, The smokebox fit looks rather amateurish, The man in the cab is sitting on something, making him seem smaller he really was. i do not have to hand a Hunslet list, but Hudswells sent the following 0-6-0ST s to Russia it seems. 421 of 10 May 1894 to St Petersburg 15inch cylinders 488 31 March 1898 to St Petersburg "Novorossisk" is mentioned Both 15 inch outside cylinders 592 31 July 1901 to Heirs of Paul Demidoff 16 inch outside cylinders. All sent via S G Martin (agents) They all seem a bit young to need a new boiler by 1902, but the general look of the loco is not of a much older one. RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted January 22, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2018 Hudswell Clarke looks more likely.
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted January 23, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2018 It seems to be HC 592/1902, according to information on the IRS forum five of these were supplied to Russia. Hudswell Clarke were just across the road from Hunslet so confusion often occurs.

Lomm
This is a locomotive type 0-6-0ST, the Hudswell Clarke, class San Donato, purchased for Vyksky iron-making plant in 1901
