KNP
The new challenge has started......... This will involve me pushing the boundaries and working in an area I have never done before but have thought about many a time. The beauty of the concept of this challenge is that the areas are small and so if it goes wrong....well it's only 8inches square so you just bin it and start again. It will comprise of: Scenery Narrow gauge running over a small bridge and TBC? The name should give a clue.

KNP
Looking forward to this! You and me both! I am much actually much further advanced than the picture implies. Just finished the static grass with my trusted Noch applicator, started and thought this isn't working very well and after testing the battery realised it was nearly flat. Not a spare PP9 to be found in the house so whilst no one was looking I 'borrowed' one out of the landing smoke alarm which I had recently replaced with a new one. With the wife acting as Fire Warden I was able to complete the task and immediately reinstated it straight back in the alarm. Panic over but I must now get some spare ones!

KNP
One dark and misty morning down by the stream where the old industrial line crosses I had planned to walk to the waters edge but was forced to wait nearby as the grass hadn't fully set!?! Very early days but you can see the idea. Again this highlights the importance natural light can play in modelling making, by moving the board about until the light played off the ripples it give exactly the effect I was after of moving water. It looks wet, foreboding........and cold!

RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted January 12, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 12, 2018 I know that place. We played poohsticks and dared each other to jump across. When you slipped or miscalculated, one foot would get wet. It felt odd but also deliciously forbidden to have one foot warm and one foot cold.

Maybe a simple one first, then something else...

That brings back memories of a little stream in a wood out the back of my parents house in Little Chalfont where my sister and I used play by a wooden bridge, well I say bridge more like a couple of old scaffold planks......! I thought I saw someone leaning over the bridge yesterday, ought to be careful you know as I haven't built the handrails yet so don't want you falling in. Well I know of one person that plays down their on a regular basis. I asked him when he was going back and he just replied - 'I will when I can remember where I left my pooh sticks.' 'now where are they?' 'Think, think, Think???' Winnie supplied courtesy of my 3 year old Grandaughter

KNP
Lovely again. Good to see Winnie the Pooh getting involved. Thanks I know, he wanted to from the start when a stream was first thought of. Anyway I didn't want to leave a bear behind......!!!!!! Hat and coat time I feel, exit stage left as there's one leaving in 5 mins? PS - my Grandaughter now wants that picture printed so she can put it on her bedroom wall, well it's not as bad as her older sister (5) who got me to photograph this - which is on her bedroom wall next to a picture of Mummy & Daddy????? She loves them and will walk around the garden looking for them to feed!
KNP
Ventured down to the bridge this morning whilst still dry. Noticed the farmer had installed a new fence and, I assume, some kids had put a couple of old tree trunks across the stream to act as a bridge. Seem to be a few more hedges than I recall from my last visit - hmmm funny how the mind can play tricks?? Didn't stay long as the heavens opened up and I beat a quick retreat back to the car. Still lots more to do, but it looks like the grass needs a bit of a hoover when dry to get rid of those stray bits of grass... KNP
Funny thing happened to me on the way to the stream this morning I went past a tree manufacturing establishment. I didn't know these places existed but I expect they have branches all around the country! All hand made from bar-b-que sticks, card, pva glue and clump-foliage. Very fragile at the moment until the glue sets, already had one collapse as I tipped it over to early and some of the clumps fell off!!! I've kept them as they can form a hedge somewhere......waste not - want not. EDIT - apparently I have been informed that I have dropped an 'r' in stream.........so I've put it in! sb67
Fantastic modelling KNP. Can I ask what glue you use for your static grass and how to build up the layers, it looks great. Steve.
KNP
Fantastic modelling KNP. Can I ask what glue you use for your static grass and how to build up the layers, it looks great. Steve. Thanks. I use ordinary PVA, mine came from Wickes for the only reason it's just down the road from me. Static grass is a mixture of 2,4 and 6mm lengths applied over a bed of ordinary scatter grass (colour to suit the need or can be a mixture of colours) laid on a brown painted base. Clumps are small irregular shapes of Mininatur matting pushed into the above. Scatter sprinkled over a layer of hairspray to give weed effects or pushed into the static grass then glued to give a different effect. Truth is I sometimes just mess about and see what happens - some works - a lot doesn't but that's the name of the game
KNP
Found this poster, looks inviting so might pop down there one day and have a look around. Only problem I'm not quite sure where it is, I was told it was just left of over there! I can hear you all arranging your summer holidays now, hopefully there will be train excursions run to the local attractions? KNP
Needs more fog. (Only to give the rest of us a chance!!) Fog?......dry ice - I can see it now drifting up the stream, hugging the waters surface, slowly creeping under the bridge, billowing past the camera. That would look good in a picture but I'm not sure what the management would say about that in the house How are you getting on with your challenges, especially the canal based one as it was looking good? RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted January 17, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2018 I've reverted to my usual butterfly mode... flitting from idea to idea and not getting things finished. Must pull my proverbial finger out.
