From Newsstand (magazine distributor):

MRJ magazine probably heads up the UK magazine industry's assault on top end niche hobby publications. It's famed the world over and there are many more besides that take Model Railway Journal as their market for excellence. Browse for them at will.

We all have our opinions about our favourite “top end niche hobby publication”, and often indulge ourselves in criticism of it, but it’s good to know how well regarded it is.

I wonder if the  "assault on top end niche hobby publications" is why I can not get MRJ reliably anymore in Canada. Our local bookstore has 3 copies left of about 2 issues back.

The only reliable way to order MRJ is to order it direct from the UK. I get my copies from Newsstand* (I am also not in the UK) and I am very satisfied with their service. The best feature, for me, is that a 'subscription' with them can be as many issues as you want, even a single issue. They send me an e-mail reminder for each issue, which I then order separately.

I've been amazed to find MRJ to be quite widely available in mainstream newsagents here in Oz. My budget doesn't currently run to new magazine purchases but I'll often have a flick through it in the shop.

Great post. I certainly don’t take MRJ for granted and love it’s esoteric nature and way of doing things. Very British!

Following the link says 260 is due out 25.1....

After doing a check the other day, I found that I am just two issues short of a full collection (0 and 4 are missing and I have a lead on these).  Definitely a keeper.  I too am in Canada and have been getting my MRJ fix regularly from a mom and pop local magazine shop for years.  I asked the owner if he could get it, he did and the rest is history.

Having switched to 7mm a year ago, I find that Hornby mag is the only mainstream publication that caters, albeit in a small way, to 7mm.  I cancelled the others.

Yes, and so it was.

Strange, because on my last trip to the UK I was able to pick up MR, BRM, and RM. But didn't come across MRJ, despite visiting several newsagents (including three branches of a nationwide retailer).
