Green Leaf Brewery London

Hi everyone, well finally put the lid on the van and have primed it.  It was a lovely kit to make and I can't wait to start the next one. Ideally the next one would have been a brake van which I planned to get at Kettering but I didn't make it sadly.

Cheers Tim

An Engine Shed for Green Leaf

I've started building an engine shed for the brewery. It's the first building I've scratch built.  I looked at the various kits around but thought I would have a go.  I did a lot of thinking and cribbed off a number of things I've seen on a number of layouts. Here are some photos. The more complete images show roughly what it will look like but please note it's not stuck together, hence the white gaps.

Engine Shed Progress

made so progress over the last few days. painted the inside of the shed and put the mortar colour on. I've also stuck the whole thing together. The last images with the 'roof' on just show what will be underneath the tiles and other ornamentation. Next stage is to fill the corners then spray the outside.

Hi latest developments.  I've made up end doors for the engine shed - they are roughly posed here.  They will gain some hinges soon. I've also made a Peco mineral wagon with a load.  I've yet to weather that.  It stands in front of the Skytreks factory building which I have begun to paint properly.

Hi all, I've been working on a new building for the brewery.  This will be the barrel wash house. It will have a platform at the front, canopies either side of the central part.  I've seen a rather cunning steam barrel hoist which I will fit inside.  it's still rough at the moment.  I experimenting with LCut laser cut card rather than plasticard brick paper.  I think the jury will be out until it's painted.

Best Tim

More images of the buildings with their Halfords red coat. Contrast brick work and mortar coats to come

Tim

Looking good, Tim.

You are at about the same stage I am with my LCut-based warehouse.

i agree that the brick faces constantly coming loose is a pain though.

Hi Duncan, thanks. Your strand looks great I've missed it somehow. So the missing bricks problem is there with the kits too? It's an unintended consequence but you do feel like you are laying bricks individually! Would you recommend the kits they seem thicker and more substantial.

Hi Tim,

I've used the kits a few times (under-arch kits especially) and now the modular warehouse sections. The thicker sections seem tougher, but the brick problem is still there.

i think the trick is to avoid cutting through the bricks. Where I had to do this, I tried to use a vertical chopping motion rather than a horizontal slice.

Also, I did stiffen the under-arch parts with Shellac. This soaks into the fibreboard and makes it quite hard. I didn't stop the brick faces spalling off, but it did reduce it. i was careful to glue back on any that fell off.

I have just got some Wickes Knotting Solution to try as substitute Shellac.

There's a thread on LCut Creative somewhere on these forums, You may find alternative advice there.

Hi I've been working on the two awnings for the Barrel Wash and repair house. Simple brackets with some corrugated iron riveted on. The idea is that these will go either side of the central section.

Where is the wriggly tin from, Tim?

Hi Duncan it's Plastruct, a US based manufacturer but lots of model shops stock it.  This is o Scale Corrugated Siding cat# PS-24.  It seems very good but at £15 for two A4 sized pieces I'm keeping the off cuts!

Love the idea, the concept and the developing layout. I'm a big fan of the Hudswell Clarke, I have one too which is the basis of my own embryonic industrial shunting layout.

You're doing some excellent work with those buildings.

A brewery provides a good varied flow of traffic and chance for a nice range of wagons and vans.

Keep up the good work!

David

Some cracking work going on here very interesting to follow your progress, I do like to things in 'the raw' state and how the finished model looks good. The van kit is brilliant well done it spurs me on the have a good at a  Connoisseur Kit as I'm told they are a good starting point ....Thanks for sharing

Thanks very much that is really nice of you - sorry I don't have your name Gismorail. When I started the blog it was mainly to keep a record of what I was doing so it's nice to know people are getting something out of it. I love making Connoisseur kits, they are challenging but with each one you learn a lot.  I've attached some images of the painted kit below, it still needs finishing, lettering and weathering.  I find lettering a real challenge.
