mk1gtstu
Not far off as good as it gets in 2mm; excellent work with the essence of the area well captured in the scenery, and I reckon than I could have done in 4mm. The road surfaces and markings, which are very easy to get wrong and let many a model down, are very good! Thank you! Modelling in N gauge can be a bit challenging at times but I'm aiming to get it as realistic looking as I can which isn't always easy. Judging from your kind comments I must be doing something right! mk1gtstu
Some static grass & vegetation is now completed around the corrugated tin garages, under & on the two bridge embankments.
KeithHC
Might be worth checking out when road markings became Bilingual. Where you have slow you might have to add above "Araf". Great layout have been on VofG a couple of times first on a Sunday diversion on a HST and the second on the reopening train....... Keith
mk1gtstu
Also made a start on some fencing, vegetation & static grass above the tunnel portal & on the hillside behind the signal box. This hillside will be made up of fields & smallholdings/allotments with pigeon coop, sheds & stables. Also a small row of terrace houses on the top corner of the hillside. And also some work started on the churchyard & small village on Baseboard 1 Cheers, Stu

mk1gtstu
Some more good progress made on the layout. Grounded van body in place in the field at the foot of the embankment Made use of a Chapel building which came with a recent job lot of N gauge bits I bought recently. This I've placed on the small area of land near the Goods Depot.
mk1gtstu
Next, some more static grass done on the hillside behind the signal box & embankment next to the tunnel portal Made a start on the allotments area at the top of the hillside. Also built the row of terrace houses adapted from the Scalescenes kit to suit the look I want.
mk1gtstu
Started some work on the small village on baseboard 1 at the far end. The house on the right is another from the N gauge secondhand job lot I bought, which will be the farmhouse. Then a few houses along the lane are now in place. Some static grass added around the Chapel building on baseboard 2. Also some more sheds, glasshouses & work done on the allotments on baseboard 2 And finally for now, a grounded van in place in the PW yard Cheers, Stu

mk1gtstu
I have been doing a few more scenic bits & pieces, also connecting up all the building, streetlamp & signalling wiring. Decided to take a break from all that & run a few trains. Here are a few short videos for those that are interested.... Cheers, Stu

marc smith
A grubby 37, going over Porthkerry viaduct, hauling a train of coal hoppers, bound for Aberthaw power station..... brings back some memoriesThis is looking good - wish I had chance to see this cracking layout Keep up the good work
mk1gtstu
Hi all, about time for an update I think.Haven't touched the layout for well over a month or so until this weekend due to lack of time, most of the backscene wiring for lights & signals & detailing stuff I did a while back, most of it finished off now, just bits & pieces to do on the layout itself as time allows. Decided to have a running session the last couple of evenings & had a play around with the DLSR camera so I'll share a few photos for those that are interested.

BernardTPM
Perhaps a minor point, but well done in having grounded van bodies that are actually correct to period. All too often you see (for example) a BR 1950s built van body used in a 1930s setting.
RMweb Gold 88C Posted June 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 19, 2018 I remember van bodies being carted away from Woodham's leaving the chassis to be cut up and thus saving the locos. Brian

Charlie75
WOW! What a great layout you’ve created. It looks amazing.I can’t believe it’s N gauge. The structure’s and terrain are superb. The latest set of photos you’ve posted, some of them it’s hard to tell it not the real thing, especially with the light. Well done on building a truly inspiring layout.
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted December 7, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 7, 2018 This is a wonderful evocation of Porthkerry, and I am not happy at all to criticise, but the 70mph pros sign in the photographs is wrong. The line speed on the Vale of Glamorgan route was 50mph in the 70s, and AFAIK still is.
