Adding platforms and buildings in templot

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

It’s probably already been covered but how do you add platforms and buildings into templot plans. I’ve had a search around on templot and found the section that allows them to be added in but just can’t work out how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Platforms are in REAL, PLATFORMS. Adding buildings etc you have to do in SKETCHBOARD and tick the show on SHOW ON TRACKPAD.

Hi Jeremy,

Platforms and buildings are two different things. Platforms are part of the track templates. Click this menu item:

Use the buttons to adjust the platform to the size and shape wanted by mouse action. If you curve the track template, the platform will curve with it. If platforms on adjacent tracks overlap, you can switch off the edge lines so that they appear to be a single platform between the tracks.

Buildings can be added as items on the sketchboard. They can be dragged to the required size, rotated, made transparent, etc.:

If you ask on the Templot Club forum it can all be explained in greater detail.

Martin.

Martin,

Have always wondered - the generic width that Templot gives for Platforms - is just just a random figure or based on some common standard?  Also, if you have a platform between two lines, and you add a platform to ONE of them - is that wide enough to give the right width for the full platform, or just half of it, ie you have to add the platform side to both lines to get the correct width platform?

Hi Rich,

There is no such thing as the "correct" width for a platform. Traditionally the requirement was for a minimum of 6ft from the edge clear of all obstructions. So if you have an island platform with say a nameboard and and a lamp post in the middle of it, the minimum overall width would be 12ft. i.e. 6ft each side. It could then taper down to an absolute minimum of 6ft wide at the top of the ramp.

The default setting in Templot is 12ft (144 inches). In most cases a prototype island platform would be wider. A single side platform would likely be wider than that at the centre but maybe a bit narrower at the far ends. But never less than 6ft clear.

Current regulations are more complex (e.g. no ramps), the above details are for the traditional steam railway.

Martin.

Thank you Martin. I’ve managed to add platforms but cannot work out how to drag a shape form the sketch board onto the trackpad.

How do you do this?

Hi Jeremy,

You can't drag items from the sketchboard to the trackpad. Just tick the box in the top left corner and then close the sketchboard. Any items you have added to the sketchboard will appear on the trackpad (behind the tracks):

p.s. Having sketchboard items on the trackpad will slow down the screen response. After you have checked that they are in the right place, I suggest you untick the box again while you continue track planning. You can put them back any time you need to check.

regards,

Martin.
