Tug002
Who would have thought that 37240 and 37407 are still around? Former is miles from Scotland (Llangollen!) and latter is on the main line if I remember rightly.
meanach
Who would have thought that 37240 and 37407 are still around? Former is miles from Scotland (Llangollen!) and latter is on the main line if I remember rightly. It’s nothing short of a miracle that 407 had that rebuild . Mind you , I’m still gutted that 408 wasn’t saved.

meanach
37417 blasting into the sunlight through the rock cutting with the first train of the day , 12.42 Fortwilliam - Perth. The only out and back passenger diagram to pass by Meanach on a Sunday. Realistic for 1988 . It was very much frowned upon in those parts to be working on the sabbath ! RMweb Premium richierich Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2018 Superb layout. The track looks to be hand built? Is this OO-F, EM or P4 gauge?
meanach
Superb layout. The track looks to be hand built? Is this OO-F, EM or P4 gauge? Hi there and thanks . It’s OO , code 75 SMP . I cut the webbing from each sleeper , a mind numbing task but it enables better ballasting . Each piece is cut to scale 60 foot or 40 foot sections . Sounds the part but isn’t great electrically, despite the numerous droppers. All my locos are now ‘Super cap’ fitted so that’s not really an issue . Nothing worse than stalling sound locos ! meanach
The booked 37/4 failed at Meanach . The yard shunter was 26023 which was duly utilised . Luckily a small group of bashers had bailed off the down . One is seen here ‘flailing’ , enjoying the 1 in 50 climb out of Meanach. 17
meanach
The latest scenic section on Meanach . They say a layout is never complete and this latest section is proof of that. A friend suggested I remove the Prodigy controller base station from the top of the layout . This , he suggested , would open up better photo opportunities! So , he removed the wiring and controls and then I set about blending in Meanach’s newest inhabitants ! Here is the result . luke the train spotter
Like the look of this layout. That basher flailing is a great addition!
Signaller69
Nice work, the modifications are really in keeping with the area. The flailing "basher" looks effective too!
meanach
A 26 pauses at Meanach with an engineers train, waiting for the late running up train. All becomes clear when the booked motive power is nowhere in sight but 20138 is ! That basher managed to get the ‘gen’ again ! Edited March 4, 2023 by meanach Broken link . meanach
20138 deputises for the booked 37/4 . Seen easing itself over the river heading towards Perth. Fitted with a Legomanbiffo chip and single Zimo dumbo 3D speaker. Edited May 1, 2018 by meanach
meanach
37408 has a brief crew change . The new driver obtains the long section token then wastes no time , opening 408 wide open and lifting the train away up the 1 in 70 gradient . 408 is fitted with a Legomanbiffo V4.0 West highland chip and a Zimo double dumbo 3D printed speaker.
P.C.M
Nice couple of video's, I am gutted I didn't get the gen on the 20 working I would have gone out for it. Cheers Peter. 1
meanach
37416 storms the bank with cooler group going overtime. Seen heading east on 2P23 . Fitted with Legomanbiffo ESU V.4, West Highland chip. The Zimo double dumbo 3D speaker adds some serious clout without resorting to any major chassis surgery . Same size as Bass reflex but with much better (and louder) sound.
meanach
Spent an enjoyable few hours weathering up these 2 Polybulks to add to Meanach’s Speedlink fleet. A combination of air brush followed by powders. Anybody know how to get these to work with screw link couplings !?!! They are way too tight using my regular Smiths . meanach
For those of you wishing to enjoy better sound AND a stay alive capicitor with Loksound V4.0 , here is my solution . As previously detailed with Zimo fitted class 20, firstly I saw off the nose end of the chassis and install a Zimo 3D printed single dumbo speaker. This is a lot quicker than milling out the fuel tanks . In the space where the original speaker was you can just get away with fitting a Youchoos or Zimo 6800uf 1.3 second super cap. These have come down in price now . With a Loksound V4.0 the positive needs to be soldered to the first tab on the chip and the negative to the 3rd. Set CV 315 = 0 or else the cap won’t work properly . Then set the stay alive time with CV 113 = 255. And off you go! In my class 37s I fit an ESU powerpack mini in the nose but at £38 a time they aren’t cheap . They are also more bulky, although of high quality . There is no way they’d fit in a class 20 with sound without sacrificing the cab area. I hope this is of help to some of you . Ian
meanach
And here is said modified 20 in action . Seen climbing the gradient away from Meanach at the east end of the layout .
