Hornby 08 TTS Sound

Rails have confirmed that they will not be splitting the decoders on these.

Shame really. This is one of those occasions where anyone wanting the sound will be better off buying a loksound for £99 rather than one of these for the decoder.

Not sure how many will be wanting the red livery, had it been green or blue it would've been a direct replacement for my Bachmann model.

Yes, if it had been a BR blue one from the 70s I'd have bought one straight away. Possibly two.

I picked mine up on Friday.

The sound is the best sound ive heard of an 08 yet. Way better than the other 08 projects ive heard including original Hornby, olivias and howes.

Runs great too.

If anyone wants just the decoder olivias are selling them separate for £43

Have you got a link for Olivias chip?  Thanks.

EDIT - found it!

Looking at the Olivias page, the speaker supplied with the chip is a round one.  The previous Hornby 08 sound (not tts, £136 in 2010) had a rectangular speaker at the front facing inwards and was 21pin.  Anybody know what the inside of these looks like and where Hornby have put that speaker?

Has it got the new extended cold start, whereby you select F9, then when you select F1 the motor goes into a loop of random failing to start noises until you decide to let it start by deselecting F9 whereupon it finally cranks up.

The old TTS F9 cold start just played through a set piece before cranking up.

The trouble with Olivias is that their online ordering system is so last century.

You have to email them then they phone you to complete the transaction, can't hide it from SWMBO if they do that can I.

Paul

That is what mobile phones are for ;-)

Seriously, you could probably put a note on the order saying you can only call them. My wife does that sort of thing ordering goods as she cannot receive calls ar work.

Yes it will keep cranking forever until you release F9

@sawyermodels - thanks for this. Nice video - the noise is very subtle, though the dentist's drill towards the end, less so. Being nosey, how well are the tts locos and chips selling?

The drill towards the end is our layout manufacturer building in the workshop at the back. I couldn't hear it until I played the video back. We've sold out of our first batch of TTS 08 waiting for another batch to arrive.

Best project I've heard for an 08 is Paul Chetters project on Zimo from Digitrains. I've just fitted a 21 pin into my Hornby 08. It stuttered with the Loksound decoder in, but the Zimo seems to have cured this, whilst sounding better as well. Do we know what DCC fitting the TTS sound loco will have? As I say, the Loksound version had 21 pin, presumably to save space. Trevor

When I first heard Pauls 08 sound I broke out in a cold sweat as, having just retired from driving, I thought I was back at work!
