Nigel N
I am thinking of re-painting a few wagons into the "Rail Stores" livery...... the grey looks to be Railfreight grey, but the other colour seems unusual, I have seen it described as green ], blue, turquoise etc!!! A trawl thru various photo's doesn't help too much, as the lighting varies so much looking like anything from a mid green to a light blue!! Does anyone know the exact shade used, and does any maker do the shade, or is there a suitable alternative??? Any help would be appreciated!! -Nigel

RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted January 23, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2018 I did a N gauge van in Rail Stores livery using the Railtec transfers a while back and after a bit of head scratching and searching through a box of ancient jars of paint, decided that Regional Railway Light Blue was as close a match as I could do and was happy with. sf315
The colour I’ve used on my railstores wagons is humbrol 120 and humbrol 89.for the top stripe. Both seem right to me. Thanks Steve.
Nigel N
Thanks guys!! Reading some old threads, I see a few people have gone for a similar light blue to the ones you mentioned!! Others have said its green, and having studied more photo's, its still hard to be sure, but looking at this pic, it looks green???
HGT1972
I'd say it was green on the examples I recorded. This Vanfit at Cathays certainly looks very much green to me! Did the green perhaps weather to blue after a rare bit of British sun? Hywel
Nigel N
Thanks for the great photo Hywel, I will use that as the basis for one of my vans!! I'm not sure even with weathering that green would turn to blue? I think i'll go for green, its just a matter of deciding which shade!!!
HGT1972
Good luck, Nigel! By the way, forgot to mention it's ADB781007 and one of the air-braked, vacuum piped modified batch with new suspension so you may need to do a bit of conversion work on your Vanfit too. I may have other wagons in that livery but not yet scanned. Hywel

I am doing a van as the one you showed, probably a Parkside model, and buy their separate FAT19 suspension kit, and something similar with a Tube, shame no-one makes the Ferry High, I think that would make a fine model!! -Nigel
eastwestdivide
I'd have said green rather than turquoise or blue, as per my pic here (and subsequent discussion): http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/54304-1980s-greyturquoise-rail-stores-zrb-vans/?p=652565 The paint jobs and the lettering do look a bit amateur/home-made/vague interpretation, so it's entirely possible there were wide variations in the paint colour used on the few wagons that had that livery. I have done the van in your picture. At this time it had a yellow roof, but I didn't photograph the ends, I did my model with grey. Another van I have done. Thanks.
HGT1972
Hi Paul (Lyddrail) - I've had a quick look...there's a lot of albums...and so far the only one in the opens album is a Ferry Tube (21 70 6094 053-3 ex-B733233) that sports a rather faded Railstores livery in 1993. My scanner is not about at the moment but if you're interested I'll add it when it is! I'll keep looking in the other albums too. Always enjoy seeing your fine layout as I'm a fan of the Departmental too! Hywel

I have one photo of the Ferry Tube I took at Hoo Junction, one I will do so your scan would be helpful. Cheers.

Nigel N
This is how my attempt turned out!! I used Railmatch Railfreight grey, lightened with matt white, and Humbol mid-green satin mixed with Railmatch Provincial light blue.....
