RMweb Premium Popular Post ba14eagle Posted January 26, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) During the late 1980' I decided to switch to 35mm slide film - it didnt last long and I soon lost interest in taking photos, only for the interest to be rekindled when I got my first digital camera in the early 2000'. I have never seen anything like it. The 31s had a problem with cooling, and some had the radiator altered, removing the dividing bar half way across, and a raised cowling on the roof to suck the air out by forming a low pressure as the train was moving. I know that, some also had the side grille slats changed from horizontal to vertical but the ones as pictured on the side of 181 are just plain wrong, it was modified sometime between August 81 and 1985 but the grilles only stick out on the B side, the radiator grilles on the A side were modified to vertical but they are flush with the bodyside, as they are on every other modified 31 I have seen pictures of.
