doilum
Ok first error, that should be 82004. Many thanks for your patience Jeff.

doilum
Silly question Can I edit from my tablet or do I need a proper PC and keyboard
doilum
Didnt see the tiny box labelled edit. Old eyes? Faint font? Or using a tablet? Never mind progress made. I suppose I should introduce this thread properly. Christmas 1962. My uncle shows up with a Triang trainset. Not quite brand new, but in excellent condition complete with bottles of oil and instructions. The box lid showed that father and son overseeing a layout containing most of the catalogue. The contents rather more modest with an oval of grey "standard" track, two suburban coaches and a black standard class 3 tank engine; 82004. Fast forward 55years and I still have a soft spot for this long lost toy. Having sold off my 0 gauge layout following a downsize, I have concentrated on coal board tank engines and bucket list projects. Then I see an advert for the Scorpio kit............
doilum
The aim of todays lesson is to advance my skills in communication. The objective being to successfully post a photo of the loco so far.
doilum
Room to improve the photographic skills, perhaps use a camera rather than the tablet. This is probably as far as I want to go without a fully working chassis. The cruel photo shows one of the front frame extensions lightly askew. Crank up the RSU to"11" and give it a nudge.
pwr
Copy of April 1999 RM received yesterday. Scaled up plans on Photcopier so now I have 7mm drawings for this kit. Paul R

Sandy Harper
Cheers. Any thoughts on the cab interior? Something like this?? May not be exact for your loco but close! Regards Sandy
doilum
Thanks. Helps with the decision to use/scrap the white metal castings.
doilum
Found exactly what is needed!! On the 82045 website, January 2015 newsletter shows the bunker under construction. Happy days
doilum
New dilemma. The new build is all welded. Were the originals?
doilum
82045 April 2015. Good shot of finished bunker. The top lockers are clearly offset. I have also noticed that the rear cab handrails do not locate as per kit. Maybe too late to change.
doilum
Need to decide if my clumsy scratchbuilding looks betterth n the casting provided.
doilum
Not sure what happened to the photos
Sandy Harper
I'm not convinced by your 'offset' option for the top cupboard doors. I think they should be central. There is no good reason for them not to be. Your photo also shows that you will be unable to fit the roof if they are offset! REgards Sandy
doilum
Thanks Sandy. Once positioned carefully, the offset should clear the roof. I was basing the offset on the building of 82045. Is the offset aimed at improving trackside vision when running in reverse? It has also got me double checking the top of the tanks. Those under construction for 82045 have a definite recess at the top. Checking a photo of 82026 in 1955 shows a flush join between top and sides just like the kit. Has anyone else got better information.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted February 5, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 5, 2018 Normally I would agree that the lockers are in the middle, however 82045 which is being built as the next member of the class has them off set. The group are working from original drawings so it would be surprising to offset them if not needed. https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.files.wordpress.com/2017/07/82045-bridgnorth-2015.jpg Best wishes Duncan
Sandy Harper
Ah! got it. The reason for the offset is to give clearance for the handbrake handle. See the four holes drilled in the back plate. Sandy

RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted February 5, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 5, 2018 Its years since I've been on an Ivatt 2 tank, but isn't it much the same that it is off set?
doilum
Brake handle sorted. The instructions say the castings for the mounting arenot required for this kit. I tried searching for some suitable rod and tube without success. I have hit that point where a total restock is required. I then looked through the box labelled "cab fittings" and found a really nice one piece casting. Job done. Now, need to decide what to do with the firebox back. doilum
Thinking that the firebox casting might do. Just needs some neat valve wheels to improve the 3D effect. Can anyone suggest a source of an etched sheet of said wheels.
