Dan Griffin
I picked this up today in the local smiffs, a good read albeit on the simplistic side. some good pictures that are let down by being reproduced quite small. Part 1, (issue 37!) is worth the £1.99, but I cannot justify £9.99 for the rest of them. https://www.deagostini.com/uk/collections/steam-railways/

JaymzHatstand
Just having a thumb through the first issue of the British Steam Railways book now. For a loss leader, it's a good quality publication. As noted by Dan above, it's a tad simplified, but certainly worth a couple of quid. Not sure I'll go for the rest though! Interesting that the inside cover photos both feature Glenfinnan Viaduct, the first with an un-numbered and un-crested, but lined black 5, and the rear cover features 62005 in full glory! Mallard is also referred to as 4498 in one caption, which is at least a sister loco and not one from a totally different class! I'm sure there'll be something of use or inspiration in there! Paul-H
Not at £9.99 for the remaining 49 editions, rather use that amount to buy 2 overpriced sound fitted locos than play the usual deagostini game of will it or won't it arrive this month or find the same issue sent twice or find that because after 5 issues no one stocked it any more forcing you to go the subscription route and missing the bit in their small print which says they will send you extra items that you will be charged for even though you didn't want them. Yep been there done that worn the t-shirt, so no thanks.
peterfgf
Isn't this exactly the same stuff that DeAgostini published about 20 years ago? Obviously determined to make the most of their investment. It wasn't a bad series first time round and some of the films were quite interesting. I didn't bother after about the first 6 or 8 dvds as the series was stretching to something like over 40-50 dvds and was going to be both costly and take up up a lot of shelf space. I've seen complete sets going quite cheaply on ebay or for free in the alt.binaries/newsgroups. Peterfgf
Hroth
Got given a copy of issue 1 yesterday... It'll do for bedside reading, but I'm not tempted to actually buy any more!
