RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 5, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 5, 2018 (edited) Hi all, I want to use a narrow gauge loco (009) to manoeuvre standard gauge stock (00) on a mixed gauge track. I also need to use the loco to shunt other narrow gauge wagons. Would I: have two couplings / buffer sets on the loco, for each wagon type ? use a special narrow gauge shunter's wagon for connecting to the std gauge? use a very special shunter's wagon with one axle narrow gauge and one axle std gauge, with a triangular (ish) frame ? Your thoughts are much appreciated. Stu Edited February 5, 2018 by Stubby47

They also have swing down buffers that work with the standard gauge buffers on the HSB diesels Other locos have a dual bufferbeam to couple with either. 2. The Germans call it a Zwischenwagen with different buffers each end
Gordon A
In the UK I suggest a shunting bar for pushing and chains / rope / cable for towing. Gordon A
pete_mcfarlane
Here's a UK example (from Londonderry so it's 5'3" rather than standard gauge) with two sets of buffing gear. https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/IRISH-RAILWAYS/INDUSTRIAL-LOCOMOTIVES/i-rL8hSCS
