loftdweller
Hi, I have an N Gauge Sprinter unit and need to know how access the motor as the drive mech has stopped running smoothly. I have taken the body off and can see the mech, but want to know how to get at the motor on the drive bogie. Any guidance welcome I think the mech may have been damaged when a piece of insulation fell on the top of the sprinter.

RMweb Premium Steven B Posted February 23, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 23, 2018 Before you take it to bits, what exactly do you mean by "stopped running smoothly". Do you hear any clicks from the drive train? Does it start and stop or stutter? etc etc Steven B.
loftdweller
Hi, it runs smoothly in one direction, but will then run a few inches in the other before a grinding noise is heard and the train stops moving.
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted February 25, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 25, 2018 Could be a split gear on one if the axles. Check to see if any of the axle mounted gears either slide or spin freely. If a gear has split then you should a able to buy a replacement from Farish/Bachmann. Paul-H
To get to the motor, remove the pub, unclip the two plastic clips that hold the top half of the chassis together, being careful not to snap them, turn it over and remove the fuel tank and unscrew the screw holding the bottom of the chassis together. As you pull the two halves of the chassis apart watch out for the three insulators, some times they stay in place but often fall out to be eaten by the carpet monster. Brlines also do spares.
