For those people who will be intending to go this weekend to the show, be they traders or customers, I have just got off the phone with the guild admin who have said that the the show is at this point in time going ahead. If the weather does get significantly worse then it might get cancelled. If this happens they will post any notifications on their website.

They recommend using this webcam to check the local snow conditions - none visible here!

As Northants County Council has no money hopefully they wont have to grit the roads too much. I've bought my ticket so hope to be going.

I got a email from guild admin at lunch time re Kettering show. this are the last 2 paragraphs

"I shall be keeping a watchful eye on the weather, and regular reports will be posted on the Guild Forum, but obviously I can only report on the situation at Kettering and immediate vicinity. You will be well advised to check on road conditions in your area and on your proposed route.

In the event of extreme weather conditions forcing cancellation of the show, an announcement will be made on Thursday on the Forum"

EDM Models won't be at Kettering.

Dounbtless when its a bright sunny day in Kettering on Saturday we'll look a right bunch of wusses but the reality for us starts today here in York where I need to be loading the car ready to travel tomorrow and the reality here is that there is snow and ice on the ground, a bitter wind it piling drifts against the walls and doors and regular snow showers are adding to that on the ground. I tried. Closest I could get the car to the stock was about 50yds, it showing a preference for going sideways, the door to the building with the stock in has a three foot drift against it and between the two is an ice rink of two frozen layers covered in fluffy snow.  Half an hour out in that i have retreated into the warm more comfortable with a decision not to attend.

I hope those that do decide to go have a safe trip

We have to set off tomorrow, as well, but I can't set off be for the wife gets home from work at 5 so we will be driving in the dark. Luckily we have minimal snow here so if the storm front keeps south then we shouldn't have that much problem getting there, fingers crossed.  We have already paid for the accommodation, no refunds, so we could be down if it get the chop.

The guild events manager has stated at lunchtime today that the show Will take place as planned.

Thank you for repeating the information. Apologies to the Guild if I've missed the info but I find it very disappointing that there's nothing on the publicly viewable (ie non-member) pages as to the status of the show (on/off). It may come as a shock to the Guild but not everybody attending is a member.

Engaging with non-members (who then may go on to be members) should be an aim for the guild but I always get the impression it's a very inward looking organisation. Given the weather conditions, the least they could do is confirm the status of the show on the news page. I can't be the only one looking and not finding.

People need to put their personal safety first in some drastic and fast-changing conditions, with more to come tonight. I know from personal injury that snow over sheet ice is lethal. I don't think anyone would describe Paul, or anyone else, as a wuss! Hopefully weather conditions will improve, they vary greatly within the same region with much of Lincolnshire being impassable again today.

I'm hoping to get there on Saturday, either by road or train. Travel carefully, guys.

.......The forecast for the E Midlands is getting a bit warmer as the weekend arrives.....

AccuWeather is currently stating that during Friday and Friday/Saturday night, when most of the traders would be travelling to the show:

" travel will be extremely difficult and dangerous" - Friday; and

"travel will be dangerous" - Fri night/ Sat early morning

EDIT:  quotes are for Kettering itself rather than East Midlands

A cross post from the Guild Forum.

“After a busy morning of phone calls I have decided that the Kettering Show WILL go ahead as planned.

We will post details of Trader withdrawals for information at regular intervals.

Traders, participants and visitors must make their own decision as to whether they feel able to attend.

I did mention this to a guild officer last night when an email re high-vis jackets when I replied to his email. so far no reply. not had an email from the guild as yet telling me that the show is still on.

On a positive note I have taken delivery of the 0-16.5 NG wheels from Gibson's today so our new range of Talyllyn wagons will now be available from either ourselves or the 7mm narrow gauge association. There are limited numbers we have 2x2-bar slate and 2x3-bar slate wagons. The 7mm NGA have 4x2-bar slates, 4x3-bar slates, 4x3planks, 4x4 planks, 2xGunpowder vans, 3xIncline, 3xIron body (with strapping) and 3xIron body (no Strapping).

I had a call from Tower today to say they won’t be attending (I had arranged to pick up an order).

Have to say despite me somehow surviving the slippery platforms which caused Paddington to shut just after I got through this morning, I was beginning to think the risk of being stranded north of Watford was a little on the rash side.

Don't we have a list of the traders NOT going even if it's Purely an unofficial one ? If most of the trade does not go for reasons which are similar to what Paul Martin of EDM has said I for one don't blame them in the slightest. As it's an good hour for me to get there if the trade isn't going then for me as a non member there would be little point in going. Unless there is a dramatic upturn in conditions I'm not travelling, sorry.

From the horse's mouth.

Details will be posted when available!

I expect that Alan is trying to compile one list rather than continual individual posts of xxx is not attending  or yy is not attending.

Just got the email. We will be attempting to get down tomorrow, accommodation has already paid for. I believe Tower aren't going. Nothing on the guild website in the non-members areas.

Still absolute silence on the public side of the Guild website.

I suspect that many non-members will not have seen the sparse members-only info kindly repeated on this thread and, given that it sounds like many other shows are cancelled, will assume that Kettering is off.

I've made my own decision not to go this year. Not just the iffy driving conditions but I don't want to get there, pay full price entry and then find half the hall is empty. Potentially all that effort and cost getting there for no benefit.

The Guild really are shockingly poor at public information. Is it really too difficult to put a few words on the website? Another home goal.

Thanks for that. My cousin who lives in Kettering has just messaged me with this

"We have had about an inch of snow up to now, but are expecting about six to eight inches from early afternoon through tonight and tomorrow morning. The roads last night were bad. **** got stuck getting home from work. I have not been out today, but going out soon. Most of the problems are due to a lack of gritting. All the schools are closed. The drifts are causing the biggest problems. "

Not sure what to do now.

I see from some trader's websites, they are saying although they are still attending they may be bringing reduced stock levels e.g. Streamlines website says they have cancelled their van and will be bringing pre-ordered stock and whatever else he can fit in his 4x4

Owing to the very bad weather and travel conditions in our areas, we regret to announce that Minerva Model Railways will not be attending the Gauge 0 Guild Spring Show at Kettering on Saturday 3 rd March 2018.

We hope that those who actually get there on the 3rd will understand, but as one of us is actually in 'The Red Zone' and the other waiting for snow ploughs to clear roads, we feel that it is better to withdraw now.

It is very disappointing as we had intended to announce the next new Minerva model at the show. However, we will announce it shortly so please watch the Minerva website, Facebook and other social media.

Meanwhile, our full range of Minerva  locos, wagons and accessories are available for order as usual through the website at www.minervamodelrailways.co.uk or the phone 02920 531246 or 07775 782086.

Please see the website for details of other shows we are attending...when we are sure the weather will be better!
