We're delighted to announce that the order book for the Tara Mines wagons opens this weekend at our range launch! The first run of models will see five packs of two wagons in the current red oxide scheme, giving you an authentic ten wagon train.

The wagons promise to have a level of detail yet to be seen in 4mm, including rotating axle caps, kinematic couplings and a wealth of separately applied detail.

We will be able to take orders at the event on Saturday and online. Prices will be €79.95 per pack.

Excited? We are! smile.png

Thanks 071 for the reply.

One other daft question & I'm half wonder if I dreamt this, as opposed to having read it. But am I correct in thinking that the Tara's have had three different styles of 'lid' fitted?

If I am right on this, what style of 'lid' is being tooled & hence again what time frame does the 'lid' suit?

Cheers, Mike C

Red oxide came in around the late 80s, early 90s. :)

Certainly the only colour I've them seen in my visits to the Emerald Isle ....... but what colour(s) were they before that ?

( Before my modelling period, but I'm intrigued by the bogies - no doubt they'll have clearances for 5'3'' wheelsets - but would they be adaptable for 4’8½’’ without looking silly ................. or are there secret plans for a 'narrow' gauge version for secret future 'Accurascale' releases ? .............. incidentally, I've never worked out how the rotating axle caps work on the real thing - so I'll be interested to see how you've done them on a model : not turning at half speed I guess ! )

That’s correct Mike, when built they had a distinctive ribbed lid in the blue livery, and at the moment they are being outshopped with a new lid. The wagons in our first release will have lids which they gained in the late 80s and most still wear in service. A future lid with the blue livery will have the correct hood for that livery.

Hope that’s clear!

Thanks,

Fran

Hi Wickham Green,

When built they ran in a distinctive blue with ‘TARA’ branding as you can see on this page behind an A class http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20N/Navan/IrishRailwayStations.html#Navan_20110321_003_CC_JA.jpg

This will be done in a future release :)

As for the bogies and Accurascale, all I can say is ‘wait and see’ ;)

Cheers,

Fran

Thanks for that ........... i'll have to find time for a proper trawl through Barry's photos one day - but I did spot a picture of 'you' on there : very fetching in those wasp stripes !

Hard to believe I've been in two liveries since then, but I must admit I do like my current colours...

In other news, since we are all stuck indoors for the next few hours here in Ireland as Storm Emma dukes it out with the Beast from the East we may have just opened Tara preordering early..  smile.png

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update, we've now sold 25% of the Tara's in its first week. We are hoping to have a sample from the factory within the next 10 days or so. Thank you to everyone who has placed a pre-order so far!

Remember, if you are having any difficulties in placing your order, using a discount code etc, please email us at info@irishrailwaymodels.com

Cheers,

We have received some sample images and video of our first Tara Mines sample from our factory in China. We think it looks pretty special so far but they will get a more forensic examination when they arrive in Dublin in the coming days. Check out below. WARNING! The underskirt pics are very x-rated!!! biggrin.png

Please note however that this is a hastily thrown together hand assembled pre-production sample. The tooling is still to be refined and the fit and finish of the models you will receive will be much better!

As you can see there is a wealth of detail in these wagons, using real springs, fine brass wire and close coupling with sprung buffers. It also has the rotating bearing caps which you can see working in this video! This bogie will also be used on our forthcoming fertiliser and 42ft flat wagons!

We will have this sample on display at the forthcoming Wexford and Bangor shows. Over 25% of the first Tara run has been sold. Make sure you don't miss out on this groundbreaking model. Order now https://irishrailwaymodels.com/product-category/freight-stock/tara-mines/

Got to see the the pre-production Tara wagon 'in the flesh' at the Wexford Model Railway Club Exhibition today, and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Another stunning RTR wagon from this stable. It is just a gorgeous full bodied wagon and yet for a bogie wagon is not too long which will look realistic on typical layout curves. Looking forward to a rake of these super detailed wagons.

Decorated Tara pics! smile.png

We have just received a decorated sample of the highly anticipated Tara Mines wagons! This is pack B. Don't they look superb? We will have them in the cabinet at the Stillorgan toy fair in Dublin this Sunday, so pop in for a look if you can.  :)

Hi everyone,

As you can see above, moulding is now done and they are currently being assembled.  The good news is that we will have them here in the second week in August, all going well. We are including a couple coupling bars in each pack to help with close coupling.

This will be the finest IRM model yet, so make sure you don't miss out. At €79.95 a pack they're good value too, along with the rake deal helping you save even more! https://irishrailwaymodels.com/collections/tara-mines

Cheers,

Fran
