So, despite having a cronic lack of time at the moment I have decided to plan a new layout.  This is mainly driven by my own Father Dougal, who having turned 6, has decided he thinks we should build an exhibition layout together.

Attached is our plan for "Ramsbury Dyke", a small truncated branch station set in the southern region of BR in the 1970s.  Having filled OO and O gauge micro layouts with track we wanted something where we could experiement a little bit more with scenry, and have thus kept it simple.

The blue track will be electrified, and the red unelectrified.  The yellow tracks will be modelled in a disused state.  This includes the old branch continuing to the right and the remains of the goods yard at the bottom.  The exit to the fiddle yard is on the left, below the church.

Could I ask for advice on the signalling please?  The pink dots are starter signals.  The blue dots are the ground signals.  Are they in the right place?  The two starters on the right hand side will be modelled in a disused state.

The track is going to be N-Fine (code 40) using B6 turnouts, one of which will be used to create the catch point.

Thanks

Father Jack

Thanks Sam, the main layout will sit on two 44” x 8.5” boards, there is also a 12” x 8.5” end board. It is designed to sit in some plastic boxes i brought ... sadly my layouts have to go through bouts of storage, and these boxes seem to be a good solution.

The end board is designed so it can be replaced by an extension at some point.

So, just ordered the base boards ... I love laser cut kits, gone are the days of me filling the Swear Box to over-flowing whilst simultaneously proving that it is possible to mess up cutting a piece of wood square, even with a mitre saw!!

Now the question is, is the N-Fine track worth the extra effort?  Could my glacial production line cope with building 5 points and a trap, or should I settle for Peco Code 55??

Hi Jack, are you still over in the "Far East"  :mosking: , how can you see the N gauge after the O??

I will confess now to owning a Terrier and more recently have bought a a MW H class to go with my MW K class, we have moved back into Andover and there is the possibility of a new O gauge layout  :superstition: .

Regards John.

Still in the "Far East", although we're a few yards further west than we were last time we spoke!

Now Dougal, these trains are small ... and these trains are far way ... ;)

Nice! The O guage layout has stalled whilst I attempt not to build some kits. In particular the next job I really do need to get finished is a Meteor P tank. Last of the required tools arrive next week, then I need to get off my elbows and get on with it.

Look forward to seeing your O gauge efforts.  Are the locos kits?

An update!

I purchased some Tim Horn baseboard kits for this project.  Tim made the boards to size for me and I have to say they are amazing ... they even survived my ham-fisted attempts at carpentry.  The camera is on holiday with the rest of the family, but I will take some pics when they get back.

I still haven't made a decsison between Peco Code 55 or the N-Fine track.  The baseboards do have plenty of depth, so I can use the Tortoise point motors left over from the layout which got destroyed in our garage in Andover.
