Re-naming a layout?

I'm toying with the idea of changing the name of my layout, from something fictional to something closer to the real name of the station it's based on - the model isn't an exact replica of the protoype, though as close as could be done in spatial constraints.

 

Off-hand I can't think of a layout on here where the name has been changed so I'm wondering if anyone else has changed their layout name, if so why?

I can think of another. Sumatra Road used to be Harford St.

Harford St is in London' East End. Sumatra Road is near West Hampstead Thameslink.

The layout was originally intended to be an exhibition version of someones home Harford St layout. It was then changed to represent the North London Line in an area more suitable to run NLL & GN suburban trains.

 

If you feel a different name would be more suitable, then change it.

Stations are occasionally renamed on the real railway too.

Or o gauge layout changes its name pall the time depending on what stock and buildings are being used. If it is running LSWR, LBSCR, S&DJR or GER then it's "Scratchy Bottom" if it's raunning Furness or NER then it's "Lowick" and when it's running Cambrian and Manchester and Milford the it is "Gwaelod Crafog for Gwaelod Hapus".

I almost forgot: Colin Whitelock's 'Convertible Line' which routinely changes name part-way through a show.

It has separate sets of buildings, station nameboards etc & appropriate stock to run as GW, S&D & Midland stations, but only usually 2 per show.

Lately we have been running it as S&D until about just after lunch, then it changes to Midland.

The operating team prefer Midland because most of the passenger services are DMUs which are easier to send back & forth!

That's right Iain. Jim had started his new version of Harford Street and I wanted the exhibition layout to be further west geographically anyway somewhere in the area around Mildmay Park and Dalston Western Junction ideally east of the Cannonbury Spur which West Hampstead is not. GN suburban services access Broad Street via the Cannonbury spur and Western Junction. My dad was born in Sumatra Road NW6 and I thought it was a good name for a station so I used a bit of modeller's licence and placed it further over. It looks like Sherlock Holmes liked the name too!
