Jerry1975
Funnily enough I'm planning on doing something very similar, that is using boxfiles for a modular layout. I look forward to seeing your progress. Jerry.

Jerry1975
Looking forward to seeing it develop, what are you going to use as a baseboard ( if you do use one inside the boxfile )? I use 5mm foamboard, easy to cut and reasonably cheap. Jerry.

Hi Jerry I have some 3mm ply so that should be fine my on concern is what height should the opening be on my tunnel entrance as the boxfiles are only about 70mm deep. Jerry1975
Hi Kevin. You probably know, but if you put your tallest loco/item of rolling stock you will be using on a piece of track on your baseboard then measure the height you will get a good idea of how high it should be, just add a few millimeters so your train can pass under. ( sorry if I'm stating the obvious ). Be careful cutting a hole, they are not the strongest of things and it's very easy to cut right through to the top by mistake. Jerry. Guest ShildonShunter
Thanks Jerry for the help I received the track I needed to lay on the layout. The track is situated where it will be laid and cutout has been done ready so I can use an adjoining track to shunt. Need to strengthen the base slightly to stop an sagging. Guest ShildonShunter
Excellent use of an old wagon, looking forward to more. Jerry. Thanks Jerry I have laid the base ready to strengthen the existing boxfile file base. Then I can concentrate on laying the track. I thought an old coal wagon would be ideal to do some kit bashing to produce a coal staiths for the layout. I'm off to Newton Aycliffe tomorrow as there is a toy fair and railway exhibition and stands so I'm sure I won't come away empty handed.

Guest ShildonShunter
Looking good, can't wait to see more. Jerry. Thanks Jerry I still like to cut out cardboard sections to create hills and embankments then back fill with kitchen roll or newspaper and then add the plaster cloth. Jerry1975
That's how I make them too, you can also use pva soaked tissue paper too instead of plaster clothe but it's very messy. Jerry.
Guest ShildonShunter
Started on the beginnings of a road bridge starting to come along nicely now. Once the bridge is built I will start to use the plaster cloth to form the few hills and embankments.
