RMweb Premium SHerr Posted March 13, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 13, 2018 Great news, I was wondering last week whether there would be any more 33s anytime soon. Looks like Burma Star will be on its way. I notice that there’s only Hattons advertising them - are they limited Ed’s or are they just quicker off the mark. Also of note (but no use to me) is Hattons listing 2 ‘Fawley Train Packs’ Class 33 with some class B tanks. Good to see someone do a pack that’s a realistic combo rather than the usual random mix of loco and coaches/wagons that seem to come out from elsewhere. Yes I thought loco/wagon pack a good idea, I then thought a "Dutch" 33 and some dogfish would be a good set to do.
kintbury jon
33009 is an odd choice as I seem to remember that it didn't last long in Dutch livery after having an accident.

RMweb Gold Tim Hall Posted March 14, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 14, 2018 I can finally replace the Lima Burma Star! I saw this loco a lot as a kid. 33114 Ashford 150 has been done by Heljan before. Goes for silly money 2nd hand apparently. Friend of brother-in-law had been looking on ebay for ages and had large wallet ready. Think he paid someone to repaint a more common one eventually. wirey33
A couple of the 33114 NSE ones have recently gone for upwards of £170. They also did a version of 33035 in NSE but that was before they sorted out the roof profile.
RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted March 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 14, 2018 Yes I thought loco/wagon pack a good idea, I then thought a "Dutch" 33 and some dogfish would be a good set to do. The Dogfish have recently been done by Heljan in packs of four as limited editions for Kernow MRC. As far as I know they still have them, so whether there would be a market for more packs, even with a loco to boot, at this time is to me doubtful. Very interested. When the class 33/0s where originally released by Heljan they had a 33xx reference number which changed to 34xx when the new tooling came in recently, however the 33/1 tooling was never changed so the recent releases retained the 33xx reference, but I see the new 33/1 models announced have a 34xx so I am wondering if they have been retooled also now. It has always amused me that the 33/0 model came in for heavy criticism for the incorrect roof profile but the front of the 33/1 has never really been mentioned (particularly the cab windows). Fingers crossed. Steve Edited March 14, 2018 by steve1023

It has always amused me that the 33/0 model came in for heavy criticism for the incorrect roof profile but the front of the 33/1 has never really been mentioned (particularly the cab windows). Fingers crossed. Steve It always amazed me they had 2 separate body toolings for the 33/0 (wrong roof profile) and 33/1 (correct roof profile) when first released. The more recent 33/0 shares much of the chassis of the first 2, but with major corrections to the bogie sides and fuel tanks. It amazed me that those corrections were never applied to more recently released 33/1 and 33/2 as no additional tooling is required, it just means using the newer tooled parts on the older models (I have sprews of the new bogie sides, they clip on the older models with ease). Maybe the next batch 33/1 will use those parts. I hope they don't base the body on the more recent 33/0 because there are errors in that too (referring to the later style roof etc not as originally built - the new as built version is really good and the best 33 out there). There is a big roof panel on that model (not seen in the first 33/0 they did nor the prototype) and the air horn covers are still fitted (normally gone by then and again not seen in their first 33/0). The latter is easy enough to correct (just drill out the panel and put air horns in the hole), the former is more problematic. I wonder if they will stay with the 8 pin plug? RMweb Premium Francis deWeck Posted March 15, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2018 A check of the Heljan.dk site also shows 2 green versions D6516 (Early BR green) and D6551 (SYP) http://Heljan.dk/shop/class-33-0-1511p.html

Apparently in the mid 80s here http://www.class33crompton.co.uk/images/33-33056-1980s-Southampton-z.jpg I kinda prefer with the full white/grey roof but without these stripes. steve1023
Did any of the 33/1 receive a headlight whilst blue?. I'm quite interested in the BR green Fawley pack with class B tankers that Hattons are advertising with D6501. I believe this Crompton went straight from plain green to blue and am hoping the model comes without a warning panel.
