Hello all!

I've been doing some research into unusual and unique liveries carried by Class 37's and I came across the following image:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/141225590@N05/26461857681/ (Credit to the original photographer!)

It shows 37196 carrying BR blue, but also sporting a red stripe along the length of the body, above the tumblehome.

So far as I can tell, no other member of the class ever carried this, nor did any other loco on BR.

My question is this: How long did the loco carry this livery for? I have found a mere four photos during my time, including this one, and only one gave a date (27/02/83).

A few references have been made to how this was a short lived livery and that would certainly account for the lack of information regarding its existence. I'm just hoping some kind soul on here may be able to tell me more!

Cheers

James
