Does anyone know the date for the above show in 2018 please? It is normally held in early October but I cannot find any information to confirm this year's date.

I have tried the Hornby website but it only takes me to the 2017 header page.

Thanks in advance

Jim

Shame it's moving, the car museum was an interesting location making it an attractive day out

Not sure Milton Keynes needs a third (non specialist) exhibition, the 2 existing ones are quite large and spaced 6 months apart

I think it out grew the museum location and there were problems with the setting up times.

I was going to say that the change of location suits me fine personally as it should be easily accessible by train, however Arena MK looks to be quite a way from the nearest station (Bletchley ?). However a shuttle bus from Milton Keynes Central is mentioned.

56 minutes walk from Milton Keynes which is better suited to long distance services, 33 minutes from Bletchley station.

In either case a shuttle bus looks necessary, if there is one I might make a visit.

Interesting that it is moving. There were problems with the museum and it was very crowded last year, and VERY hot in most of the rooms. Access for set-up/break down was in some cases a problem too in recent years.

Not sure if I'll bother going this year now it's moved as its not quite on the doorstep anymore (though not too far away either).

Just hope MK Dons aren't playing at home that weekend.

Jonathan

Doesn't really matter, with Ikea, Asda, Primark, Odeon etc. etc. all in close proximity, Stadium MK area is a place to avoid any weekend, whether the Dons are playing or not. And anyway, they may well be relegated by then.

I liked the old venue, and surely it could have spread into the Jaguar building as well if more space was needed.

The British Motor Museum was a very convenient venue for me; I volunteer there so I got free entry and it was great to see it bring so many people to the museum.  But I remember last year's event being terribly crowded on the Saturday so maybe it was a victim of it's own success.

I'm sure MK will be more convenient for some and less for others - such is life.  With it being relatively close in date to The International N Gauge Show and to Warley I may not bother.

Hopefully someone will post details of how to walk there from Bletchley given the lack of pavements along the roads, which makes Google Maps etc pretty hopeless for finding anything on foot in Milton Keynes. Even the venue's own website does not give walking directions from Bletchley station.

The Motor museum is more convenient for me but it has to be said that the show had outgrown this venue. It was uncomfortably overcrowded last year. The walk from the station doesn't look too bad.

Have you looked at the road ?

No pavement - dual carriageway.

The folks who live in Milton Keynes will have to help out here but I got the impression there was a walkway or cycleway just next to the dual carriageway. There is certainly a traffic free cycle route to the arena from Milton Keynes station.

AFAIK the only venue/show that has exclusive rights is Warley at the NEC. Otherwise, it's fair game amongst the over povision of shows so enjoy it while you can as the current system isn't sustainable.

Just when I'd finally psyched myself up to going to the relatively local Gaydon (due to the Show never falling on my rest day and the misleading title that should have read "The Great Electric Powered British outline Train Show"), they move venues and dates....

There looks as if there is a more wiggly route just off the dual carriageway but the road itself seem to have only intermittent foot paths alongside it.

I was going on the dotted line on that map snip. The path is definitely not as straight as that.

I have it on good authority that there will be some foreign stuff on at least one layout at this year’s show.

And the start of the walk looks like the route from Bletchley station to the Depot, which I last used sometime in the 1970s ! I'll take my Locoshed Directory and see what's changed.

There's a downloadable pdf map of traffic-free 'Red Way' routes here

The move from the Gaydon Motor Museum to Milton Keynes is both good news & bad news.

The good news is that all the exhibits/trade stands will be in one location instead of the individual presentation/lecture rooms at Gaydon.  There will be no delays due to lectures/seminars over running due to oversights by the Gaydon staff.   I exhibited there in 2014, arrived there at 1530 on Friday afternoon  as with normal prestige exhibitions to set up but only to be told I could not get access until 1800.  My layout & also any other large/complex layout take about three hours to set up & test, so not a good start to the weekend!   Some larger layouts take longer.  We were still testing right up to opening at 0930 Saturday morning.  I think this also happened last year.  Once the exhibition got underway, the Hornby staff did a good job.

The bad news is that anyone from Bristol, South Wales or the South West have extra travelling time due to having to use 'A' roads when leaving the M4 at Swindon although there is not much difference in the mileage.  It is a pity that the GETS move east puts another top exhibition on the Ally Pally, Peterborough, Nottingham, Doncaster, York axis.  Also that a venue could not have been found in the Bristol area or even the NEC.

However, I suppose it was a commercial decision & the main thing is that all the exhibits/trade stands will be under one roof.  I am sure the Hornby team will make it a commercial success & popular with us modellers wherever we live.
