New Club Layout - New England based

Hi

I have been planning a US layout set somewhere in New England. I was struck by the diamond crossing at Whitefield, New Hampshire, location of the last remaining ball signal in the US. I was wondering how I could incorporate this feature in to a relatively small switching layout wired for DCC.

I was hoping to do the layout so the period is 'flexible'. I have a Bachmann B&M 2-6-0 for steam era operations and I am considering the same company's Sound Value Rs3. I also have a Maine Central F3 in the post from America, and I'm looking at Bachmann's "bluebird" GP9.

I'm a bit stuck for MEC motive power- I can't seem to find any of Atlas's RS11s anywhere. Aside from eBay does anyone know where I could find one?

My other question is one of liveries. When were MEC locomotives repainted in the green scheme? When did they start using the large 'MEC' logo on rolling stock? I'm pretty up to speed on the B&M but MEC is harder to find information for. Thanks for any answers

This may be of help

As for the RS11's the Atlas website used to have all the various production runs listed under it's products pages. If it's relatively recent then you could try one of the big box shifters like MB Klein or Trainworld otherwise it's Evilbay time

Good luck with your project

Dan

I`m not completley sure,so i may be corrected by someone who know`s more here;but i think that the green scheme came in after the partnership with the B&M ceased in the mid 50`s.

I would also assume that, that`s when the large MEC herald was first applied to the freight stock as well

Then of course the 'Harvest Gold' scheme came around in during the 60`s with the GP38`s.

As i say i`m not sure,but i don`t think i`m too far off!

Brian.

Sounds like an interesting project. I'm also a big fan of New England railroads.

Atlas have released RS11s in both the gold and green paint schemes some years ago. US E-bay (ebay.com) will be your best bet for finding one.
