Can anyone identify this armature?

I have had this armature in my spares box for a while, but don't actually know what it is for?  The shaft diameter is 1.26mm, ie less than Hornby Ringfields & Lima pancakes, and the overall length of the shaft is 21mm.  My guess is that it may be from a Mainline class 56 diesel.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I don’t think it is from the County class, as I had thought this myself and checked it out. The County armature, according to service sheet 213, has the spur gear on the other side, ie next to the metal plates which make contact with the brushes.

I will see if I can find a pod motor and compare it. I must admit to not being very familiar with the pod motors, and from what I have seen of them, I have no real wish to become familiar either!

I think that might be a Hornby Armature. There is a pic on Peter's Spares that looks just like that. https://www.petersspares.com/Hornby-x8438-x803-3-pole-armature-silver-coloured-commutator-plates-china.ir

I thought all the mainline armatures were the same. The pod is okay but the squealing drive train lets it down in everything but the unstressed life in the 03.

That Peters spares armature looks like it has a larger diameter shaft and possibly no drive gear as the gear is overhung outboard of the motor bearing on the Hornby and inside on the Mainline (and also the Lima though that has a plastic drive gear.)

It looks very much like the Mainline Peak armature. I've just had mine apart, and put it back together. Don't particularly wish to take it apart again, otherwise I'd post a photo!
