My limited contacts with Signatrak have suggested competence in both design and timescales, so I expect the update to appear.  The USB socket is on the ACE already and computers software like JMRI was always on the "to be done in future" list. 

 

Whilst USB does throw the odd problem, for the vast majority of users it is not an issue.  For DCC control, serial-over-USB is perfectly fast enough for the data requirements of any reasonable domestic layout size. 
I'd argue USB has fewer issues that need a tech-head to solve them than WiFi and related networking methods (or why did Roco have to ship a pre-configured router with their Z21's along with dire warnings about not changing settings, if not to deal with those who have a little, and thus dangerous, knowledge about networks....).
