Hornby virgin class 90

Recommended Posts

There are lots of Hornby Class 90 in all sorts of different builds internally from DC ringfield to those with bulbs to DCC ready and those with leds, so having the R number of the one you have would help enormously then we could find the associated service sheet for it.

Although not listed on the service sheet 209 is the one you want as noted here...

Here’s how I improved my even earlier one R062...by adding better pickups and getting rid of the traction tyres.

I fitted lights to it using an Express Models kit. Note I removed the live panto switch.

Hi,

That looks very good however I have one question. Will the PHD Design class 90 improvement set work with the express models lighting kit as I have started super detailing mine and will use the class 90 improvement kit.

Kind regards, Matthew

I'd also be interested to know if the Express Models lighting kit will fit with the PH Designs Class 90 detailing kit. In the process of doing a Class 90 and I've got a mix and match of the PH Designs kit and my own 3D printed parts.

If the lighting kit doesn't match the PH Designs lighting cluster then the easiest solution is to use some plasticard and fabricate the headlight cluster

I got in touch with express models yesterday and he said that if I could give him the diameter of the holes in the lens he would make a custom lighting kit for them. I hope that helps and if anyone has the dimensions so I could pass them onto him please let me know.

Best regards, Matthew

My PH Designs kit is still in the UK and I won't get it until the end of July or so. Maybe someone else can help. Hopefully Pete Harvey can let us know. I'd prefer a custom lighting kit to suit the PH Designs kit.

My Express Models kit only provided red and amber main lights, not the rectangular outer markers that I see in the PH etch linked pictures.

My leds were small diam lighthouse type glued together so they could be separated and custom adjusted to fit the etches, but if you want the outer markers then they will likely have to be add ons to the basic EM kit.
