D200 aka 40 122 was unique, like all the ten pilot locos it never had the small handrails on the top of the nose, or a ladder on the front or later the fixings for a ladder on the front. What made her different to the rest of the class was the positions of the front lamp irons. They were half way up the nose either side of the front door, not low down outside the lower disc. They were moved to this position in 1958 when she carried the headboard proclaiming progress by Great Eastern the first 2000hp diesel. The lamp irons were last used on the main line when she carried the headboard proclaiming progress by Inter-City the last 2000hp diesel.

Yes I would like a model of D200 when she was allocated to Stratford.

Very much a missed opportunity in my opinion, considering the 1st generation Type 4,D248 disc headcode variant is now delayed until August/September 2019.

I too regret not buying one of these when they were available:

Especially at the £69 they were going for then!

I'm not sure I'll stretch to the £148 for the next version due next year...

Thanks, never noticed that before. I'll try to ignore it when looking at my model of D200!

Empress of Britain D210 was the reissued model back in 2005. This loco featured a much better prototypical lowered chassis, better paintwork, build plates and still stands up well to the recent releases.I think I paid about £60 at the time and still have it in my collection. They don't come up often, one advertised on eBay has just sold for £103.95.Bargain !

fair enough! it has to be more than twice as good though--the latest Bachmann 40s seem to sit a bit too high to my eye?

all the best,

Keith

I picked up a mint one from eBay a few weeks back for about £65 - I'm very pleased with it. With no nose handrails it will convert relatively easily to D200 in 1984 condition.

Bargain at that price, if I could acquire another I certainly wouldn't hesitate.

The new versions of this model, of which I have four, two twin box and two centre headcode are lovely models with lighting, but to be honest I could do without it.

Did you get the separate metal nameplates with your acquisition ?

Don't forget the additional bracket at the top of the nose Clive! The OP might like to look at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/83923-d200-from-Bachmann-d211/?hl=d200

- seem to remember you contributed there too Mr M.

Yes that is what I thought. No nameplates, just the frost grills, disc headcodes and brake details pack - unopened. Should it have them?

I have three now, one of each type, two 21-pin and the 8-pin one.

I've been told by others that their version came complete with separate nameplates. Mine however were missing and the retailer couldn't assist.

As I said before,I think you got a bargain with your purchase, enjoy!

If you want nameplates drop me a PM

Surely this has to be one for Locomotion Models as it's in the national collection? Given that the last D200 was a fair while ago and it has never been done in its' current condition (Fully green ends). Would not be surprised at all to see this release when the next batch of class 40s go into production (and here's hoping).

I was hoping / expecting / wishing that D200 complete with first 2000hp diesel and last 2000hp diesel headboards was going to be produced at the class 40’s at 60 gala in Bury... alas missed.

A disc head code 40 in Green with Yellow ends would be nice.

Its a great project for someone to start renumbering/reliverying with - those nose ends just come off and are easy to respray....

OT I know but here's a little story with D200. When my dad was working at Crewe during his railway career, this was one of his colleague's favourite loco which he monitored using TOPS. Apparently this man booked a week off work to travel behind 'his' class 40, but D200 was out of action all that week!
