wombatofludham
Looks like the planned use of 91+Mk4 stock to Blackpool has been approved. http://www.alliancerail.co.uk/22-new-blackpool-to-london-rail-services-approved First effective open access on the WCML since the Manchester Airport to Euston North West Trains service? Pete the Elaner
I was aware that this service had been proposed. These trains are planned to be formed from an electric locomotive, six passenger carriages (including first class and a buffet car) and a large luggage van. Only 6 coaches? I expect they will soon fill up. I wonder if this part was worded into the proposal or would it be flexible?
Zomboid
If it's MK4 sets then there are probably going to be a few spare carriages around once they're done on the ECML, so future expansion couldn't be ruled out. Though how many a 91 could cope with and still fit into non-tilting paths on the WCML may be an issue, particularly accelerating away from MK if they're on the fast lines. Though will they definitely use 91s? Obviously 90s are passed for the WCML, and maybe a 110mph loco will be the choice rather than a 140mph loco. (How fast can an 88 go, and would there even be any available?)
Ron Ron Ron
This open access service is approved for 7 years and 7 months, timed to coincide with the expected date of the opening of HS2 phase 1. Lots more detail than you'll read in any news release, here...... http://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/27929/2018-06-07-gnwr-decision-letter.pdf . 'CHARD
Great to see, and the detailed content of the approval notice makes for very interesting reading in terms of the respective and relative positions of various interested parties. I'm looking at you, Network Rail.
