Cutty Black’s of York

Stopped by this outlet this lunch time. For those unfamiliar with the place it carries a lot of unusual items as well as the basics.

As is the sad pattern John is shutting the model shop business in the next few weeks (and turning it into a cafe).

Still open and having a clearance sale but yet another high street shop closing down.

Leaves Monk Bar (great traditional shop worth a visit) in York for model railways now.

Edited to say you may need to knock on the door from now on as he’s not opening in the traditional way.

A great shame that this shop is closing. I only found it by accident earlier this year, and have made several returns since, always managing to find something I needed, (or didn't know that I needed!). John always seemed to have that quirky item or desirable secondhand piece that you'd never see at Monkbar - as good as it is. Good luck and best wishes to John in whatever venture he undertakes.

Walked past this place earlier this week and was surprised to see it was still there. There was a sign to say it was only trading on eBay during the pandemic, but still encouraging!

Are you sure? I went past a few times after it had closed And it was very much shuttered up. The cafe never materialised to my knowledge. There’s another model shop (P and S Hobbies) 5 minutes away that is still open.

Good to here P&S is back open, I imagine an entertaining and cutting critique of government and YCC policies on lockdown, support for small businesses and the rest will be available along with the usual comprehensive range of materials, sundries and things you didn't know there was even a kit of.

Monkbar Models are still going strong too and have been supplying me by mail order throughout.
