DA4L-001-006 Junction Signal GWR Left hand with two arms, shorter post to Left September £TBA

DA4L-001-007 Bracket Signal GWR Right hand with one arm September £TBA

DA4L-001-008 Bracket Signal GWR Left hand with one arm September £TBA

Hmmm, i thought these had been quietly taken round the back of the shed and given the 'old shep' treatment. (Ie shot in the head and put out of their misery)

Quite excited to see if they're any good, after all, they've been in development longer than the Apollo moon missions were. (Well almost)

Nice one Dapol!  It seems like we have been waiting ages for these to appear, - so it will be interesting to see how accurate the design is, and how well they work.  I may be needing  a couple to resignal Sproston...

I will be in the market for a couple to use on Brent, assuming they look good and work well.  I have been pleased with the one I have used so far on Wheal Imogen, should make good place holders until I get round to scratch building the final replacements.

Saw some nice pre-prod samples on Dapol's stand at Warley year before last.  They looked good - a lot better than the earlier single post jobs.

Yes, they've been a hell of a long time in development.  At each of the last four Warley's I've been told, 'Sometime next year'.  So good news indeed.

(I want to experiment to see if I can 'bury' a couple in Stoke Courtenay's platform, to look like platform-mounted signals for the Earlsbridge branch platform.)

How MUCH..!! WOWWWW !!!!!!

Assuming they are to (4mm) scale as near as can be achieved and that they work reliably that probably isn't an excessive price for something which involves a lot of hand assembly and is priced against a falling £.  But it does depend on how they sit against those assumptions.

Equally one has to think about the market because on the vast majority of layouts reasonably accurately portraying the prototype world the need for a 2 doll splitting signal is going to be fairly limited.  For example my own layout plan requires a potential maximum of 5 running signals in the 'visibly modelled area only one of which would be a splitting signal, and that is for a relatively uncommon track layout.

It will indeed not be a cheap item, but if you price up the components required to build one yourself, adding in a set of servos to operate them you will also be spending a fairly significant amount of money. Its a hobby so I am not going to calculate an hourly rate for building one myself but such an item is not something the inexperienced 4mm signal builder (like me!) can throw together in a couple of hours. All things considered, I agree with Mike Stationmaster, Dapol cannot expect to sell huge numbers of these junction signals and they will not be simple to mass produce, even at Chinese pay rates.

I also live in hope that they will be more reliable than the first batch. Having said that, the ones that I have set up with a 9v supply appear to work perfectly.

You pays your money and takes your choice!

Just a shame the hobby that I loved as a child has as become out of reach for many youngsters today due to the high cost of products.....

I do wonder about that thinking back to the high price, in those days, of Hornby Dublo semaphore junction signals when i was a lad.  All the HD electric signals were a long way beyond my pocket money and very much in the realm of birthday or Christmas presents if I'd wanted them - all I got was secondhand stuff from elsewhere because that was all I could afford.  Even Ratio GW signals (the original ones) were far from cheap.

Given that the single post one arm signals are £31.95, this is about what I would have expected.  I am considering using Dap's motorised signals on Cwmdimbath; at this rate the total cost will be about £125, but of course I don't have to do them all at once, and as the splitting inner home is only visible from the back it is arguable that only the two starters are needed.

I understand that production is not far away so they should be on sale by the second half of this year.

Thanks Mike

Time to start thinking seriously about this, then.  Luckily for my malnourished wallet I don't need many; a single post starter, a bracketed loop starter, and a spitting home; this latter signal has now been moved further in to the scenic part of the layout and there will be a banner repeater on the other side of the road bridge where it used to be.  I'd be up for operating ground disc signals if Dap ever made them as well.  They are not cheap, but considering that they come fully assembled, lit, and 'plug and play' I think they are worth it.

I might make a start, with the single post starter, fairly soon to get my hand in with them.

Just now, The Johnster said:

This is good news, Adrian, but my wallet is becoming a bit nervous; it makes sense for me to buy the splitting home first as this will be the most expensive.  It will mark the start of a long term program to have some lights on the layout; signal box, some rooms in station building perhaps, to evoke the atmosphere of a very dull and rainy day of the sort typical in the South Wales valleys.  Night running would be nice, but I can't really see being able to manage loco and tail lights with steam outline stock.

Just thought that I would comment on this Signal. I received mine promptly from Hattons. I was concerned that the "Control Box" which attaches to the signal is quite large, and I did have to make some significant modifications to my underbaseboard area to accomodate it. However once fitted the signal works a treat, much quieter than the previous signals and the "bounce" is quite effective. I did not need to make any adjustments to the signal at all. There is also comment on price but considering it is two arms and includes the switches (pre-wired) I think it is reasonable value compared to the single arm signals.

Thanks for the info and apologies if this question is covered in another thread, but can anyone confirm based on practical experience whether these operate by passing contact ie (on)-(on) switches or latching, ie on-on ones?  I have seen the Modeller review implying that the switches are latching and the photo seems to support that, but there is also a comment somewhere that these require passing contact only for operation to avoid burn out, like the previous single arm ones.  It's a lot of money to take a chance that there is now a sensible operating method in force.  Many thanks in advance for any information.
