RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 1, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 1, 2018 I picked this up in pretty good condition at a show today but can't find any details of when it's from or indeed actual manufacturer, I'm guessing Bassett Lowke or similar. Any ideas, I just liked it!
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 1, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 1, 2018 Ah I just noticed TTR on the end so have found some under Trix Twin! Splendid little bargain
Nearholmer
Yes, TTR was ‘under the wing’ of BL (I’d have to consult a book that I don’t have to hand to be sure of the exact relationship), which explains why they advertised BL, and why it was sold through BL’s shops. WJBL effectively provided refuge for the German partners as they were squeezed out of business in their home country by the Nazis. Summary here http://www.trix-twin.co.uk/hist1.htm , although it misses out the close involvement that WJBL and Greenly had in the predecessor Bing Table Top system. RMweb Premium NCB Posted September 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2018 Amazing the difference between these and Hornby Dublo when that came out. Dublo must have been one of the first close to scale model railway systems, in that the rolling stock was a half decent representation of the prototype. Nearholmer
In 00, yes, although I think you are being a bit hard on that Trix wagon, but, of course, there had been quite hi-fi commercial models in 0 and above for nearly thirty years by that time. Il Grifone
There is also a matching one marked 'TRIX' in yellow. They were only available pre-war so are quite sought after and valuable. The couplings are very delicate and easily broken. There should be a wire loop for coupling. Versions in company livery have the same printing on each side which presents a problem representing an end door wagon. I have seen it claimed that the GWR thought the Trix products were too unrealistic to bear their livery. They are no more unrealistic than Hornby's 0 gauge efforts which do, so I don't know if it's true, but there were no Trix Western models until the 56xx in the late fifties

Yes the coupling is intact, the only damage is a 20mm scratch on one side. Valuable? So £2 was good then
