Ruston
Another great day out riding the tracks of one of the UK's largest industrial railways. My fifth visit to Appleby Frodingham steel works to sample the delights of the brake van tour, run by the AFRPS. Every time is different with a different route and new parts of the system visited. Today the scheduled steam service was cancelled due to a hot box on Avonside Cranford and Yorkshire Janus No.1 was substituted, which was lucky for my pal Dan and I because the driver was Narrow Gauge Jordan, of this parish, and we were invited to take the tour in the cab of No.1. Our steed. Foreign thing. Not much good, apparently.

RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted September 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2018 'Like' does not do these justice. SWMBO + friends+ me did the trip a couple of years ago in the DMU trailers. Male friend was up for staying around that day & doing the brake van trip, too, but other Halves put feet down with firm hands and caped that idea. Think I will have to have a day out again soon. Mark Saunders
A system that has an interesting variety of internal user wagons that are crying out to be modelled to accompany the Oxford, Janus! The 62xx series wagons look like the former SC52xx that I understand were originally at Lackenby but some were later at Shelton Mark Saunders
HonestTom
A system that has an interesting variety of internal user wagons that are crying out to be modelled to accompany the Oxford, Janus! Didn't Lima do a torpedo wagon many years ago?
Mark Saunders
Didn't Lima do a torpedo wagon many years ago? The Lima one is a Continental prototype and there is one preserved in France that appears to be the same as the Lima one. The BSC ones at Scunthorpe have different bogies and are longer but I believe with a bit of lengthening could produce a passable model! There are photo’s of similar at Lackenby on Paul Bartlett’s site. Mark Saunders
