SDJR7F88
Not seen a topic on this Show Yet, so though I'd create one. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Experience the amazing detail of 27 model railways and get up close to famous steam engines - all in one event! Taking place throughout the Museum, this festival combines all the wonderful displays at STEAM with a feast of model rail layouts as we celebrate the GWR and all things railway. Whatever your age, there is something for all generations. Families will love the special children's interactive model railways, activity trails and dedicated play areas. Don't miss the live steam arena at the front of the Museum and listen out for the evocative sound of STEAM's GWR (steam powered) Swindon Works Hooter - courtesy of Hatch Heritage & Steam Engineers. You'll get the chance to explore our fabulous new exhibitions too: 'The Art of Publicity', 'The GWR Publicity Machine', and 'GWR with Everything'. For modelling enthusiasts, we have some fascinating demonstrations lined up. Specialist modellers will be at hand for a chat and to give tips and advice on construction and weathering techniques. Trade stands inside the Museum will be stocked with model railway items, railway art, railway books and memorabilia for all your railway bargains. Chris M
It's worth going just to see the spirit of Swindon layout in N. Its a very good museum and with all the model railways it makes for a great day out. I'm helping with our club G scale layout. This is not trying to be a model railway, it's trying to capture the atmosphere of a garden railway at an exhibition. Definitely not one for purist scale modellers. Set up yesterday. David Bigcheeseplant
I went today, and spent a couple of hours there. Some nice layouts thaat I had not seen before, It seemed pretty quiet so getting round was ok. A bit of a moan as there was quite a few demos either with there heads down or doing stuff on phones or tablets, not exactly being proactive with the paying visitors. SDJR7F88
Had a superb weekend at the show with Amiens 1918. On the occasion I managed to get away from the layout, it was great to see so many other superb layouts on display. As always I managed to get a little video of the eveny, which will follow soon. Only managed to get a few pictures, including Foxcote Colliery and The Spirit of Swindon.
RMweb Premium 65179 Posted September 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 10, 2018 (edited) Thanks to everyone for making this an enjoyable show. I decided to make the journey over from Cardiff after finding that the kids and I had a free day. It was great to see the re-vamped Mini-MSW. The more open appearance allows you to get a better view of those 76s. This was the first time that we'd seen Foxcote New Pit since it ceased to be Highbury, and someone was particularly taken with it: Thanks to Jerry and Kim for letting us have a play. My son was particularly taken with Amiens and a special thank you to those running the G scale railway for putting Thomas and the exploding dynamite van on specially for my daughter towards the end on Saturday - it must have been the umpteenth time of putting that van back together! SDJR7F88
8th/9th September 2018 saw the STEAM Museum at Swindon host their annual 'Festival of STEAM' Model Railway Exhibition. This years line-up featured no less than 28 layouts in a variety of gauges and scales, including my 009 Scale WW1 Trench Railway - Amiens 1918, plus excellent selection of Demo's and Trade Stands, well placed around the superb STEAM Museum. Hope you enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fS17L8NxVU
Signalman Rich
Thanks for taking the time from exhibiting your layout to take and edit your video. As you show there were lots of layouts and demonstrations to inspire us, including your Amiens portrayal. Excellent modelling from behind the lines in 1918. Best wishes Rich
RMweb Gold queensquare Posted September 12, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 12, 2018 As the eagle eyed will have noticed we took Foxcote rather than Tucking Mill due to a last minute failure (rubbish Cobalts again - Imscrapping them this time for something reliable). We had an excellent weekend, and, on the limited time we had away from the layout, were very impressed with the other exhibits. Back next year, Jerry
