Hi everyone,

In a conversation in a model shop we got talking about the Bachmann Coal Tank, and the subject arose of renumbering the LNW one.  I've had a look online but couldn't find a manufacturer - any ideas?  More about curiousity than need.

Thanks and regards,

Alex.

Hi again,

Thanks for those suggestions and links; both very helpful.  I had looked on the LNWRS site but hadn't noticed that particular page (need to go to Specsavers!).

Thanks again.

Regards,

Alex.

I would go for 247. The LNWR ones are old technology, note the “require cutting to shape etc”. I have used both.

I definitely agree. I put the LNWRS ones in for completion as they might have one that someone needs. Particularly the namers as many of the alternatives don't do the names.

I've got a rather fine set of 247 ones for Charles Dickens. It's just a pity that I haven't got the loco for them to go on yet and GEM kits aren't currently available. I'm toying with getting the Brassmasters version, but would prefer the GEM kit if it reappears.

A couple of years ago I picked up a couple of sets of plates for my "Watford" tanks from London Road Models. It may pay to drop them an email and see if they have anything suitable for the coal tank as they have a kit for these in their range. From memory they were priced at £2.50 per set.

LRM still supply LNWR plates, pre-painted and "fully" etched, only needing small tabs cutting through to remove them. Prices at £2.50 a pair (see bottom of LNWR loco kits page on website). Contact John at LRM through the website;

It might help to give him several "choices" of numbers, as they are stored numerically in a display box for shows but he doesn't have an up to date list.
