RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted September 22, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2018 Just watched this programme from 1980 as a BBC iPlayer download. I remember watching this when it was first broadcast - a mere 38 years ago!!! Wonderful to hear Brian Redhead’s magnificent voice again and too see all those amazing locomotives together at Bold Colliery sidings - alas no more. Cheers Darius
Coppercap
I liked the clips taken at Railhill 150 that were used in Michael Palin's ' Great Railway Journeys of the World' from 1980, with the Beatles song 'And I love her', with some clips carefully used to match some of the lyrics... Bomag
I liked the clips taken at Railhill 150 that were used in Michael Palin's ' Great Railway Journeys of the World' from 1980, with the Beatles song 'And I love her', with some clips carefully used to match some of the lyrics... There were several shots of some well know preservations in that section. The easyist to pick up is the late Phil Tatt who had a still and movie camera on a single mount and was filmed switching between the two. RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted October 29, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 29, 2018 (edited) One of my earliest railway memories was Rocket 150... Including the drama of Lions derailment. I had a footplate ride on 7298 during this. I doubt we will ever see events like this again in the UK on the mainline, though its more recent on preserved lines, i’d suggest the last great show I think was the Steam Steel and Stars galas at Llangollen.. 14 locos in a mad week long event... though 11 class 50’s at the SVR this summer isnt a bad show. AMJ
There is a copy on VHS somewhere at home of this. I still remember the comments about the 25kv AC electrics having to be pulled by a diesel yet now they could run on their own. How time passes and nearly 40 years from steam at Bold colliery to electrics silently passing the site.

Surely it was Rocket that derailed holding up the cavalcade on the first day? That's why it's nicknamed Ricket after The Guardian misspelt it's name. All due to it's short wheelbase not being happy with Bold Collieries awful track. Same reason that Novelty spent the weekend on a well wagon.
