Has anyone any comments on the 3D printed parts for point rodding and, even better, any photos of these parts in use? our group is considering using them on our new layout, but before we spend a big sum on these we would like to know any comments.

I have a number of them in stock, but not yet used. They look superb and I think that they are robust enough for the job. They appear not too need much fettling and the great part, no assembling as they are made to order for each number of rods required. IE. 1 rod, 2 rods, 3 rods, etc. I don't know what the maximum is, but I would think it would be quite a few more than the vast majority of us would ever need.

I'm starting to use them at the moment. First run installed last night. I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post. First impressions are good. I'm using cyano to stick to bases of plasticard stuck to the trackbed before ballasting.

I'm using Brassmasters and MSE etched cranks, expansion links etc.

I'm using 16 gauge guitar strings to represent the round rodding that I'm modelling. It scales at 0.4mm and fits nicely in the moulded holes. Each string is about 800mm long and has the advantage that it wants to be straight. They cost about 50p each.

Pictures of the stools as promised. I'm using the round rod variety. As you can see, I made a setting out error so will need to move the bases. The whole assembly will lift up enough to allow me to slide a piece of card underneath without too much bother.

I have to say I'm impressed with these.

Those are Modelu Rollers are they not?  They look like just what I need for Seaton Junction's runs except these are GWR style. I must check the shape/design of the LSWR/BRSR ones.

Those 16 gauge strings. Are they plain steel and not wound? They look brilliant IMO. What make did you get; Earnie Ball by any chance?

Yes they're straight and not wound. I've used a mixture. Ernie Ball are good. I bought a load on interweb from Tone Deaf music as they do multi packs of the same string (their own brand). Worked out about 65p each.

Thanks buddy. Strange, I don't think I've used straight steel on the G String before (sniggering allowed). I shall have to try one on my guitar.

We are still waiting on our (quite large) order being delivered, but I know how slow 3D printers are! Thanks for the photos and chat about these.

As an aside we have found a source of supply for 0.4 square wire -

https://www.wireandstuff.co.uk/products/0.4-x-0.4mm-Square-Wire---SS316L--Marine-Grade-Stainless-Steel-Wire----3-ohms-m-1290.html

How long is each length? Couldn’t find it specified on their webpage.

I'm intending to install these on Cwmdimbath sooner or later, when I've worked out the rodding runs, which should be fairly straightforward; it's not Clapham Jc!  I am very satisfied with my existing Modelu products, and they certainly show 3D printing's potential (and they're Welsh, yay!); lamps, loco crews, and especially the amazing hollow balled signal finials which 'lift' a Ratio signal wonderfully.  No connection, satisfied customer.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your positive comments on the rollers, it is also great to see photos of them in place.  Apologies for the delay to your order ScRSG, I've had a couple weeks out of the workshop with illness and quite a large backlog to workthrough, but if I remember right your order was in the post yesterday so you should have them today.

I've also got BR/LMS pattern in the range and have drawings for LSWR/McKenzie & Holland which I will sort out converting to 3D when I get 5 minutes.  If anyone is interested in these in particular I'll look to get a friend to do the CAD to speed things up a bit!

Cheers

It seems that pattern from the Crewe works became a general standard pattern in most updating s&t work after nationalization, after all the re-claiming work done at various Southern Region sites during relaying for Swanage Railway. The 'A' frames were still always brittle castings.
